What made the book different from other war memoirs was that the author took a radical step -- enlisting in order to stop the war. The book gives you insight into why he would do that, and what he achieved along the way. The book is easy to read and while there are definately parts that are not for the squeamish, those are well identified and you can omit or skim over them.
I enjoyed the book and recommend it.
