5.0 out of 5 stars I use it with my Canon T6i
By Chen on June 11, 2016
NOTE: Make sure you buy the SL-2 (latest version; other colors of the latest version noted as SL-T-2 and SL-L-2) not the SL-1 because that doesn't include the strap padding and the damage indicator for the cords.

I was deciding between the Peak Design Slide and the OP/TECH USA Utility Strap - Sling and decided to buy the latter first. I was highly disappointed with the design of the OP/TECH USA Sling so I opted to returning it and buying the Peak Design Slide instead.

One of the main issues I had with the OP/TECH Sling is that although the product keeps my camera extremely secure, it was blocking the liveview and viewfinder of my camera! With the Peak Design Slide Camera, I am able to connect the straps in different orientations without blocking the center of my camera. It may seem like the cords are weak but I think they are woven properly that I'm not worried about my camera dropping. It also has indicators within the cords themselves, showing YELLOW if it needs replacement or RED if it is dangerous to use in case of the cord breaking. I will update my review to let you know how long the cords lasted me!

Another thing I really, really like about the Peak Design Slide Camera is the different orientations you can have the strap as. I keep three of the four cords included in the product on the right, left, and bottom sides of my camera so that I can easily carry my camera hanging around my neck, behind me, or over my shoulder. All I need is to press on the circular portion of the cord and slide up, easily done even with just one hand. The way the straps are adjusted as easy as well. Just flip the metallic silver bar down to increase the length or up to decrease the length. There are two on each side of the straps so you can adjust it accordingly, especially for people who likes their camera on the left side (since most people have them on the right). It glides smoothly without any hangs, unlike the OP/TECH Sling.

As for the texture, it really does feel and look like airplane seatbelts, especially the one in black. I don't mind though, I still think it looks cool. If you're really bothered by that, they also sell it in brown and blue colors for just a few dollars more. As my note stated, the SL-1 version of the Peak Design Slide has NO padding so make sure you're buying the SL-2 (also make sure the box you got also states it's SL-2, SL-T-2, or SL-L-2 since the last two are the model number for the different colors). Flipping the padded portion of the strap will reveal the silicon grip so it doesn't glide as easily and stays in place. Sometimes I use that and shorten the length of my strap for a nice camera stabilizer.

Finally, the downside of using this strap... Any strap where you want your camera to point down will have to use the bottom mount of your camera. It doesn't bother me that much but I really dislike how when I set down my camera, it immediately tumbles backwards or forwards (depending on which side is heavy). Of course, that's gravity just doing its job and I can just be careful, but it is still a slight annoyance. Another annoyance I have is that since the bottom mount is taken, I have to keep removing the plate so I can install the correct mount for my tripod. An Allen wrench is provided inside the baggie for you to tighten the circle in the center of the mount plate so make sure you do! These annoyances come with wanting to have a more versatile camera strap and having it point down, so I am not giving it less than 5 stars just because of them!

In the box, you will find the strap, 4 anchors (I was referring to them as cords), 1 mount plate, 1 Allen wrench, 1 baggie, and some paper inserts with information on how to use the item. These items can be seen in the pictures I've provided with this review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb and comfortable product a relief for my neck!

I bought the Peak Design SL-2 Belt Slide to replace the strap of my D7100 that I found both ugly and uncomfortable. I replace it with the slide by Peak design and here is my appreciation after a few days of field test:
1. Aesthetic: I took the black one, it's discreet and refined some will say (OK it's me).
2. Construction, the strap is made with a fiber similar to that found in the seat belts: that is there to last: 90 kg of pre-break stress according to the manufacturer which guarantees them for a lifetime ladies and gentlemen. But surprise, there are also two straps which allow to vary the length of the strap, in one second (I meant it!), From 99 cm to 145 cm.
3. Modularity of the locations with rapid changes using the fast system. It should also be noted that the fasteners are replaceable as soon as the cables show wear.
4. Ergonomics, the strap has a padded section to cushion the weight of the device that can be worn on the neck or as shoulder sling strap.
5. Interoperability with other products from the brand (bags, mini belts ...)

The price seems steep but you get what you paid!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great strap but not cheap - but what's a £60 strap when you've paid £1,000+ for a camera you want to protect?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on August 2, 2017
I am using this strap on a Nikon D500 with the Nikon MB-D17 grip, so quite a heavy camera before you've even put a lens on it. The D500 of course ships with a strap and I wasn't really expecting to need to purchase a different strap since I have used the straps that have come with cameras for years and not had any issues, however the strap that the D500 came with was/is awful! It's really thin, feels cheap and it's not even padded which is amazing given you've got £1,700 worth of heavy D-SLR hanging around your neck (or closer to £2,000 if you've got the MB-D17 attached too!) I'm sure that the strap it ships with is strong enough to hold the camera around your neck, but it's so uncomfortable it made using the camera horrible. After just a few days of owning the D500 I started looking into alternative straps and the choice was this or something from Black Rapid. I decided to give this a go since the reviews were all really good and the strap can be worn in a number of ways and since I got an Amazon voucher from leaving my job I thought I'd give it a go and see what I thought!

The reviews are right! This strap is really nice! It's not the sexiest looking strap ever - people aren't wrong when they say it looks and feels like a seat belt - it really does - but it's very comfortable to wear for long periods of time! I took the D500 to my local church to get some shots and whilst inside asking the man on the information desk we turned a 20 second question into an hour and a half's conversation and I forgot I had the D500 hanging around my neck with this strap on! The padding is excellent and makes heavy cameras easy to wear around your neck. Setting up the strap is easy too - many of the straps that cameras come with have fiddly little plastic eyelets to feed the strap through to adjust the length, however this is much more like a rucksack and uses some kind of buckle that makes it much easier to adjust the length. To attach the strap to the camera, simply attach the little 'connectors' to the eyelets and then they simply clip onto the strap. It feels sturdy and robust, yet very easy and convenient to remove should you decide you don't want to use the strap. The colour of the connector straps changes too when they are becoming frayed and dangerous as outlined in the documentation the strap comes with. You can easily buy replacements and you get a couple that come with the strap.

There's not an awful lot more to say really. It's a great strap that feels strong and looks discrete too (if a little like a seat belt!) I haven't worn this strap in the trademark 'sling' configuration since I don't really like the idea of having a D500 hanging down by my thigh getting in the way of rucksacks and perhaps more prone to getting scratched, so my review is based on this being used as a neck strap. Just be aware though that the strap is very thick so it can end up taking a bit of space up in your camera bag (see attached photo) and I'm about 5'8" high and I have the strap set to the shortest it will go and as a neck strap at least, the camera does hang a little lower on your body than it would with the stock strap, but it's still comfortable and it's not hanging so low that it's in your... you know what I mean!

All in all a great purchase and a true top quality product that feels like it will last a lifetime. This strap will probably be with me long after the D500 has been obsoleted and I've got something else! It's not cheap, but worth it if you have an expensive camera that you want to help protect. At the end of the day, if you've paid over £1,000 for a camera what's £60 for a good strap?
