The Pearl 1030 Series Snare Stand has received significant improvements such as new Air Suspension Rubber Tips which promote increased resonance, new Butterfly Nut for easy snare basket adjustment, and the new Trident Design Tripod base. The basket on the S1030 stand adjusts for different size drums (10"-16").

It is very well made and heavy duty. Chrome is great and all rubes and bracing is sufficiently thick for a stand in this price range.
What sets this stand apart from the pack are two features. The first feature is the "Gyro Lock" tilting system. Unlike most stands that use a toothed tilted these are infinitely adjustable. The only setup I like better are the ball in socket style like that of the Ludwig Atlas or Drum Craft SS6 stand. The ball in socket arraignment allows for infinite adjustment in any direction. The Pearl setup would be the next best.
Pearly uses this same setup on the S830 (lighter duty) and the S930. The S930 is the same stand without the adjustable basket. The adjustable basket is what really sets the S1030 apart from the S930 and just about every other stand out there.
To be honest if you have a standard 14" snare drum it probably doesn't make too big of a difference. If you have something other than a 14" snare, this stand is excellent! Most stands have adjustable arms to mount the drum in to. The problem is, if your snare drum is smaller than the standard 14" the arms start to become inclined as the are adjusted to the smaller diameter. I have some 13" and 12" snare drums and fitting them into a regular snare stand doesn't work out very nicely. This S1030 on the other hand, accommodates them perfectly.
There are other stands out there that can do this also. There is a Ludwig Atlas that will. The Ludwig looks to be an outstanding product itself but it is considerably more money. DW also has the 9399 stand which looks exceptional but goes for over $200.
For under $150 I don't believe you can get a more adjustable heavy duty snare stand.
