Well that brings my to my third, the Pearl Izumi's which I've heard so many good things about online. The padding is perfect for all three disciplines. They're really comfortable to wear and I ended up using them 5-6 days a week when I was training. They were $10-$20 more expensive than my previous shorts but totally worth it with the quality of the material. When I first bought them the elastics that surrounds my legs looked a bit loose but they adjust themselves once they're exposed to water. Triathletes like myself tend to have bigger quads and leg muscles so I think thats what the manufacturer had in mind when making these.
These are not entirely bullet proof and buyers should really pay attention to the label that states NOT to expose them to chlorine. I was a bit lazy and would go in the chlorine jacuzzi at my gym after swimming. The shorts held up okay for 2 months but after that they started to get a bit see through in the front and back and loose in areas. 3 months later they are still usable though...
Tips for tri-short newbies:
If this is your first time owning a pair of trishorts learn how to take care of them and prolong their lifespan for training. When you finish a nice hard workout cycling or running just wear them when you walk into the shower to rinse them off. It's best to rinse them with cold water so after swimming. You can just spray them in the sink and then hang them somewhere out of the sun to dry.Read more ›
Overall, if I was in the market for a cheap pair of bike/tri shorts, I would buy these again. Although you're money is probably better spent on a nicer pair - pay once, cry once.
I've been wearing these while training 6 days a week for the last couple of months while training this winter for a 70.3. Most of my riding has been on spin bikes and the padding doesn't help at all even with the wide comfortable seats on the bikes. The padding actually feels rougher than the straight compression shorts I was wearing. And then when I get off the bike to run--after a couple of miles they start to chafe in exactly the place they should be adding comfort.
I've really tried to give them a chance, and they aren't horrible; it's just annoying to find a chafed up spot at the end of a not too long workout (and for about $50 they probably should do more).
/ I've also taken care of them as recommended and they're properly sized.
// I know all the cool kids wear combo swim/bike/running clothes, but I'm thinking I'll just wear a proper pair of bike shorts and then take the extra 30 seconds at T2 to change into running shorts for the run.

You will suffer if you don't have a good bike's seat, and who does.
This has no padding just extra layer of fabric
I've had these shorts for several years and they're still my go-to. I'll probably go with a couple more pairs of the same brand/style when I need more. They run a bit small. Read morePublished on November 29, 2013 by Scott E. McNeany
I really like these tri shorts. They fit well, stay in place like they should, and have just enough padding to be good on the bike without being a problem for running. Read morePublished on October 11, 2013 by JustAGuy

I liked them fine and they fit great and were extremely comfortable. I just wish they would have lasted me longer than a mere 4 months.....Published on January 8, 2013 by Ernest DeLong
I really wanted to like these but they are way too tight around the thigh. This cuts off circulation. I am 6 feet tall and around 200 lbs. Read morePublished on April 2, 2012 by Amazon Customer
