Product Description

The ValveKing Royal 8 is a true class A guitar amplifier designed to give players the punchy dynamics and tones that inspired rock 'n roll's greatest riffs. Perfect for rehearsing, the Royal 8 features a simple interface of a single tone control, dual inputs and master volume and gain controls that can be adjusted for either class A 'breakup' power-amp tones-achieved by reducing the gain and increasing the master volume-or preamp distortion, which players can access by reducing the master volume and cranking the gain. This single-channel design emphasizes the dynamic relationship of the power-amp components to produce volume and headroom that belies its small size and wattage.

I have had one of these for several years and really like it! Although it favors the clean side it is not hard to get some good rock crunch out of it. I upgraded to a Weber speaker and tung-sol tubes and it really helped the amp come alive. I am happy with the quality of sound and expect it to sound like a 5 Watt amp with an 8 inch speaker, which is what it is.

I've owned one of these for a few years? now, anyway I swapped the speaker to a Jensen P8R and while it's only 5W pushing a 25W rated speaker it still gets a great sound since I mainly use a clean driven tone. You need to stand back and really crank this little amp to get a spanking sensitivity and attack tone out of it. My only complaint is that I'd prefer a 12" speaker like the Celestion Blue 15W for better bass control and response adjustments etc. If the cabinet were bigger I could modify it to house the Blue and it would/should be perfect. I'll probably make a 1x12 Blue cabinet just to get the sound I want. I can't remember where I ordered mine, I think I bought it from Guitar Center.
