“The Peephole Effect is an easy-to-read, powerful book in which Universal Principles of Truth are made very clear, leading to understanding, which brings results. Maryann is down-to-earth in recognizing the growth opportunities we often face, while remaining true to her perception of our unwavering spiritual ability to change, grow, and heal.” —Blaine C. Mays, D.D., CEO, International New Thought Alliance
“In easy-to-understand terms, Patalano shows us how we can either (1) perpetuate our unconscious cycle, creating more of the same, or (2) create new possibilities to receive and sustain the abundance of the universe. Most valuable in this document are the many practical ways to implement these changes in one’s life, fostering personal accountability and empowerment.” —Rev. Evelyn Foreman, host of The Call of Spirit on Unity Online Radio
“Maryann takes us on a journey to realize the infinite potential that lies in all of us. With actionable steps, questions, and exercises, you can discover the power within to create the life you truly desire. Through her New Thought teachings, she shows that we all have the ability to begin today to change our perceptions and start the life of our dreams.” —Anne-Marie Wiesman, Founder of the Healing Connection Network
“Maryann has provided concepts, examples, and techniques that help one to make rational sense out of the idea of perception. When something makes sense, we can relate. Once we relate, we can incorporate, and once we take that action is when we see change. I recommend The Peephole Effect because it makes sense. It is a tool to help shift your thinking to then change your reality.” —Anna Pereira, CEO, Soul Ventures; founder, The Wellness Universe

Maryann Patalano has delivered something elegant in its simplicity, yet deep enough to satisfy the hardcore spiritualist. Her explanation of how thoughts manifest into things is powerfully presented, well thought out, and downright inspiring! Our experiences – our very lives – are things we co-create with the Universe. And the lens through which we perceive our lives is tantamount to the end result. Mrs. Patalano explains how this lens is formed, and how we can alter it to begin living the life we envision for ourselves.
Kudos to the author for putting into words something that we all intuitively know to be true. I strongly recommend this book to all readers, whether you are a beginning seeker, or an enlightened being.
The Peephole Effect is about 1) flushing out the perceptions that hold you down in destructive patterns, and 2) developing a new way to “see,” which then creates what everyone is after—meaningful change.
A good metaphor makes all the difference; it makes the complex simple. Maryann Patalano’s metaphor of a peephole—the lens we construct to view the world—is dead on. Once she introduces that image, and uses it to illustrate how it limits our view of ourselves and others, we GET that if we’ve constructed a peephole that doesn’t do us much good, we can REconstruct it.
Lots of practical exercises make the Peephole Effect an effective workbook for reconstructing your perception and reprogramming your life. I LOVED the section on dirty words, words we all use that create doubt and hold us back, and the antidote of power words to use in our self-talk. Some of the New Thought teachings and concepts can be challenging, but the discussion sort of builds on itself throughout the book, helping it sink in.
Like most books on self-transformation, Peephole is based on the author’s own journey. She’s describing a phenomenon and process that she’s experienced, but it’s pretty universal in her hands. More light-bulb moments for the reader, less feeling like a failure because you haven’t figured this out yet. Her approach gives the reader a refreshing, nourishing objectivity, a feeling that ANYone can do this.
For some weird reason, Peephole reminds me of the joke:
Q: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Just one, but the light bulb has to want to change.
If you want to change, this is the book for you.
