The Pelican Air is 28% lighter than its equivalent, and up to 40% lighter than other polymer cases. Pelican Air cases will lighten the loads of the dedicated professionals and adventurers across the world who have set out to change the game. Pelican Air cases are the first in a series of remarkable innovations engineered by Pelican, the pioneers of protective cases. For over 40 years Pelican has designed and crafted the most influential protective cases in the world, and we’re just getting started. With the launch of the Pelican Air line of cases, we’re redefining the future of protection with a remarkable union of light and tough. The Pelican Air case has been designed to cut weight without compromising durability. Our engineers have revolutionized the protector case by reducing structural waste while preserving Pelican's legendary standards of strength. In development for years, the design team challenged the status quo to "add lightness" in every detail. Here are some important reasons why Pelican Air cases are both strong and light: Molded from the next generation of Pelican's lightweight HPX resin, a proprietary formula that rebounds without breaking Honeycomb structural elements that are actually stronger than solid polymer material Super-stiff "full box" sections engineered to create hollow parts

Pros: - lighter (obvious but it really is a big difference)
- still feels sturdy
Cons: - miss the old carrying handle on top (saves a few more ounces I guess)
My only concerns with this particular model is that there is not a grab handle on the top of the case which tends to be annoying when you grab it to put in the overhead bids (very minor). Overall, is you are a practical traveler and want to make a good investment that will last many years longer than regular luggage, then you are looking in the right direction. I am glad I spent the money and lots of people notice my luggage and think they look slick!
The TrekPak liners do require you to cut pieces manually, which limits versatility, but having perfectly cut slots for your gear means everything is very secure.
I only have a few problems.
One being my particular Pelican Air 1535 didn't come with a top handle, which I didn't realize until being on set with another AC who had the same case but with a top handle. This requires me to hold the case via the stowed roller handle, causing the case to hang at a 20 degree angle. However, I have made due with just holding the side handle, like a fat briefcase. Had I noticed this issue within the return window I would have exchanged it.
My other problem is that the wheels are so small that the clearance with the ground is low enough that my case has been scraped by sidewalks, steps, etc.
Another issue is that with the 1535's lighter plastic, the lid flexes inward with weight on it, whereas the 1510's I have used don't.
Lastly the price is a little high in my opinion, but that's the nature of production gear I suppose.
Looking back I probably would have gone with the cheaper Pelican 1510 and foam liners.
I might add photos in the near future.
Bear in mind that this case has no flexibility (that's the point!), and the wheels and handle do protrude and take up interior space.
Great for sensitive items - if they fit in the small, carry-on size. If your carry-on use is more conventional (clothes, travel size toiletries), there are better options for the frequent traveler. (Rimowas are great, but the built-in garment bag of Tumi takes the cake!)
I was a little skittish at first about the divider system but the provided cutter and easy instructions to create compartments that are strong and neat to store gear. I bought another larger case for the back of my SUV. It locks with padlocks, not supplied, if you wish.
