I had it for 5 years and used it mostly for walking my dog after dark. It's the best flashlight I've ever used...nearly as bright as a headlight...I kid you not. Another super feature is the clear lens perimeter that works as a kind of beacon when you're pointing the light as the ground...allowing oncoming cars to see the glow without you having to point it at them. If you can't decide on a flashlight...this is the one. The batteries go forever and I would give it 10 stars if I could!
1) Does not sell or deal directly with consumers
2) Does not support its products with replacement parts other than bulbs
So I glued reflective foil onto it and it's back to about 80% of its original reflective ability. It never had a long beam throw but has been more floodlight than spotlight. That works fine for me because in small smoke-filled rooms with little visibility, peripheral light often works well to keep you out of trouble. Just don't expect an adjustable beam like the MagLite provides. My unit has a twist-the-lens ON/OFF switch which is impossible to operate if your gloves are wet and covered with mud/fire-fighting foam. Fortunately, Pelican has now modified that to a push-button power switch at the rear of the unit. On another plus side, it has an O-ring seal which makes it theoretically waterproof. I haven't tried to replace that, yet, so I don't know if it is a standard size or if it's some kind of proprietary ring that, like the reflector, won't be replaceable. The included helmet mount is cheap non-adjustable plastic, so I opted for an adjustable metal one (at extra cost).
All-in-all, I'm giving it 2 stars. I don't know if there are better lights out there for the price, but I know I wouldn't buy any Pelicans again. Granted, it's my fault that the battery leaked, but for a $25 purchase price, the company should provide replacement parts. If I had wanted a throw-away unit, I could have gotten one for a lot less at a number of places. If I could get a new reflector for $8, it would be worth it and I would give the light another star.
