I also tested to see if the case was waterproof by dunking it under the sink for about 30 seconds. After drying the outside of the case and opening it, I noticed that it was damp on one side. I then tried squeezing the air out of the case through the check valve so that the negative pressure would keep the gasket sealed tight. This looked promising, but the pressure equalized after about a minute and I could start to see the gaps on the side of the case widen. I think the problem might be the gasket itself as it seems to look closer to foam than rubber or silicon. Even though my case is not waterproof, it is still not an issue for me.
For the first 9 months of use I pretty much stored my case in my backpack, only removing it to use or charge my device. It is always sandwiched between either my fishing tackle, tools, photography equipment, camping gear, or whatever else I am carrying in my pack.Read more ›
The Pelican 1055cc case still earns five stars because it is the lightest, smallest serious container for a Kindle on the market. If your travel jacket has large inside pockets, this will fit inside your travel clothing without a separate baggage risk.
The case is well made, although that's expected from the Pelican brand, it is still worth noting that this case is well worth the money being charged. The case latch is secure, but still readily opens with one hand. My 79 year old mother was able to open and close this case with no problem. Some other Pelican cases are less convenient to open, but this makes sense for a lightweight eReader case.
This is not the case I would use for an emergency reader/communicator. There isn't enough room, and the case isn't as stupidity-proof as the Pelican 1150 case. The lack of a handle or other external attachment makes this less useful for "very bad days", but it still is much better than any soft-sided case out there. You will need to place charging materials in another place, because there just isn't room for a multi-source adapter in the case.
This won't do everything, but it is much better protection for your Kindle than anything it's size.

I little too big for my Kindle Paperwhite, as expected. I wish Pelican made one that fit it a little better. But since they don't, this will have to do. Read morePublished 3 months ago by DutRibs
I use one of these for my kindle and one for my tablet when I travel. I tend to be kind of demanding with my gear and these guys can take a beating pretty well. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Rorschach
Had to add a thin rectangle of packing foam to stop my ipad mini 4 from moving around inside, but is great for keeping it safe in a backpack under all conditions.Published 5 months ago by Trucker
