Penance is an entertaining novel of revenge, seeking justice, and well... penance. Five 10 year old girls playing volleyball on the school playground when one is murdered. The mother of the murdered girl, Emily, tells the other four that they are responsible for the murder. That they must find the murderer or atone. This shapes the next 15 years of the four girls lives.
