I did an extensive search on the Internet, found these, installed them, and they are much better. The plastic ends hold the metal bars well. The metal bars themselves are much stronger than others that I've worked with. The system is still not perfect -- the process of snapping off the ends of the bars to shorten them makes the bar bend a little, which is not ideal. And the part where it connects in the middle can cause your hanging file folders to fall off if you push them over it.
Overall, though, these are much better than anything else I've found. If anyone finds something better, please add a comment in response to this review.
We figured out the perfect set up and both my 15 yr old son and his weak-handed Mom (me) were able to do it. The way we did it is that we found a way to secure the rail between this cranking wooden vice that is part of a small portable workshop table we just happened to have. Any of those metal vices attached to tables would would work as well or one that would clamp it down hard on a solid work surface. The idea is that you need to have it really secure so it can't move. Make sure the scored line where you want it to break off is right at the edge so you don't bend it any farther than that. What we found is a small tightening wrench works better than typical pliers and you just put your body weight into it and it bends, a little bit more each time. You bend it up and down (we found total about 6-8 times) until it breaks off. If you can't break off all the sections you want at once then just do a few at a time until you reach the desired length.
Also I wish the distances between the holes for widening the front and back plastic parts were closer together which would allow for more variety and adjustability in width. One other problem is that it can take some work to get a rail end back in the slots where they belong if it is jagged where it was broken off.
All in all, I do think this seems much sturdier than the simple metal folder frames I have gotten in the past and we are very happy with it. But there must be a better way to construct this!Read more ›
Cutting to size was a snap, just hold the metal with one pliers and bend back and forth a couple of time with another.
I wasted at least an hour of my time trying to avoid this product due the negative feedback's. After not being able to find other frames other than ones I have used in the past and trying to avoid, I took a chance and ordered these frames regardless.
Best file frames I have used so far, and I have used many!

The frame feels strong. However your will require some strength and a proper tool to cut rails!Published 6 days ago by Edgar
This was a little frustrating to put together but once we did it worked great. You made need a vice and a hammer to put it together.Published 1 month ago by S. Hofmeister
Initially thought this was fantastic, but then realized that it takes up more space in my drawer than a metal alternative. Read morePublished 6 months ago by C. J. Bourne
Ugh. Don't bother. The frame is awkward and aggravating. The side bars are hinged to allow placing the frame onto a long drawer but once installed for use, the completely prevents... Read morePublished 7 months ago by cynthian.1
