Great adventure story - boys and girls will both like Penelope. She's a lot of fun -- strong minded and imaginative! Beautiful illustrations and it comes with a lot of facts and projects at the end if you want to make it more of an educational experience as well. I also bought the e-book on itunes for my nephew and he loved it. It occupied him on a long drive and - it's interactive and narrated. He wanted more Penelope stories!
My grandchild loves this book and so do I. I chose it for its almost reto illustrations. Penelope has so much imagination and the charactors interact with kindness and generousity. We hope to see more from Ms. Northway and Penelope.
After receiving this book, my son couldn't wait to lay down and read it to me. He just loved it! It was full of adventure, full of excitement and animation to keep his attention locked dead on. My son is 11 and has autism and it is hard finding books that keep his attention longer than the first two pages. Not only did this book keep his attention past the first two pages, he read the entire book to me straight through. He made different voices, was animated when it got exciting and just had a great time reading it. It was a great bonus for him with the "gold" coin and book mark. Thank you for such a great book we can all enjoy! It's nice having my son read to me for a change! ;)
I read Penelope the Purple Pirate to my five year old and she was delighted. She asked me to read it a second time, and third and . . . . . This book packs a double punch. First with a beautifully written adventurous story then as an added bonus, fun facts about real pirates and sea animals. This one of my little girl's favorite books and it's one of my favorites because while she's taking this fun adventure with Penelope, she is learning too. Hurray for Penelope the a Purple Pirate!
It was not clear to me from the product page (at least the mobile version) that this is not really a book but rather the print version of an app. It has a story and stuff but it looks like printouts of an app, with an elementary school workbook appended -- not a "real" storybook.
