What's in the Box:
- Penn Spinfisher V SSV10500 Spinning Reel
Watertight, Full Metal Design Endures Harsh Conditions
Whether you’re surfcasting from the shore or embarking on a multiday inshore trip, the Spinfisher V Spinning Reel offers the durability needed to withstand harsh saltwater conditions. The watertight frame seals around the drag system and gear box to offer extreme protection from saltwater and sand, keeping your reel’s components safe even if you lose your rod in the surf. The reel's full metal body, sideplate, and rotor resist frame flex and maintain flawless gear alignment under extreme levels of pressure, giving you added leverage when you're in the heat of battle.
Sealed Slammer Drag System Delivers Robust, Smooth Drag
Equipped with a sealed Slammer drag system, this spinning reel employs three high-performance HT-100 drag washers to deliver smooth, robust drag across the entire drag curve. The outstanding drag range gives you the power and versatility needed to subdue a variety of fish species, while a large diameter drag knob allows you to seamlessly crank down to max drag without risking a line break. Additionally, each drag washer is treated with a proprietary grease to ensure smooth, long-lasting performance.
Friction Trip Ramp for Pinpoint Casting
Designed for exceptional castability, this spinning reel allows you to cast at long ranges with pinpoint precision. Its friction trip ramp prevents the bail from tripping prematurely when you cast, so you can always achieve your desired range.
Fluid Cranking with Stainless Steel Ball Bearings
The Spinfisher V Spinning Reel ensures reliable operation and smooth cranking with its five stainless steel ball bearings. An instant anti-reverse bearing helps eliminate rotor backplay, so you can set the hook and then reel in your catch without interruption.
Superline Spool with Convenient Line Capacity Rings
The spool is fitted with a rubber gasket that prevents the Superline from slipping under pressure, meaning anglers can use braided line without a monofilament backing. And thanks to line capacity rings marked at 1/3, 2/3, and full capacity, you can see how much line is remaining at a glance.

The oldest of these reels was a 4500LL and it got sent back last season after about 4 seasons of moderate use. Peen elected to replace the reel instead of repairing it. I basically got a new real for $40.
The other two we have are 6500LL and they've been around for one season. One of them has a malfunctioning live liner at the start of its second season.
The Penns are ok for the money and their drag pressure shines in comparison to most reels their size. This is why we chose the 6500s for shark fishing.
This being said a Shimano Bait Runner D out classes this reel in all features except drag. These reels are supposed to be sealed and we now have two of three them needing repair. The Shimano Bait Runners used along side them have only required a handle to be replaced due to it getting stiff from salt water use. The Shimano is also an all around smoother reel so they have much more use then the Penns.
Bottom line is it has a sweet drag but is a so so reel that fails to shine in any other aspect.
