Product Description

This Pentek DGD-5005-20 spun polypropylene filter cartridge reduces sand, silt, scale, and rust particles in residential, commercial, and municipal drinking water. It has two separate gradient layers for higher particle reduction efficiency and dirt-loading capacity than standard spun or string-wound cartridges. The nominal filtration rating of the pre-filter layer is 50 microns, and the rating of the post-filter layer is 5 microns. The filter is made of spun polypropylene fibers for resistance to chemicals and bacteria. It has an initial pressure drop of less than 1 pound per square inch (psi) at a flow rate of 20 gallons per minute (gpm), and operates over a temperature range of 40 to 145 degrees F (4.4 to 62.8 degrees C). This spun polypropylene filter cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is used for treatment of residential, commercial, and municipal drinking water.

The nominal filtration rating is for a particle removal efficiency of 85%.

H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.

Water filters remove undesirable particles, chemicals, and microorganisms from water by means of a semipermeable barrier, adsorption, or biological processes. They are made of densely packed synthetic or natural fibers that trap suspended particles, materials that block microbes or adsorb unwanted chemicals, or substances that cause a chemical change, such as acid neutralization. For most residential, commercial, and industrial applications, water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside permanent housings. Filtration systems typically consist of a series of two or more types of filters, each designed to remove different contaminants. The performance of filters is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked, the percentage of particles or microorganisms that are removed, the downstream concentration of unwanted chemicals, the maximum flow rate, and the amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water filters are used in a wide range of applications, including drinking water purification, swimming pools, industrial processes, and irrigation, among others.

Pentair manufactures industrial, commercial, and residential water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards 9001 and 14001 for quality assurance.

I have a well for irrigation and filling the pool. The well water is super hard, stinky, and coats my cars when the irrigation runs. So much so it takes using a razor to the windows to clean it off.

Using this keeps 90% of the hard water off of the cars, and keeps my pool from smelly funny. There is still a slight odor, but I am very sensitive to sulphur smells, and can barely smell it.

I have to replace it every 2-3 months, and it comes out smelling and looking terrible! Lets me know it is doing it's job. Easy to change, too. I posted before and after pictures in the customer picture area.

The filter has eliminated almost all of the particulates in our water, with minimal affect on pressure. Taste has improved; however it is not perfect. We are a family of 4 and have used this filter for 2-1/2 months. The pressure drop new was about 0-2 pounds after 2-1/2 months it is still less than ten pounds. I was looking for a 20" filter that would last about three month and this filter has preformed pretty well.

I have been using these filters for almost 3 years, and they have performed well for me. I change the filter every 6 months. During this time they do a good job filtering all the red clay that comes out of my well.

took out a lot of mud that were suppose to go into my stomach.
Top choice for sediment filter. Best mate for the "big blue" filter housing.

It's ok. Removed some mineral taste from water, but not all. Rechecked the filter after a week or so to make sure it was seated properly. Still had the mineral taste. If you're using this as whole house filtration and you have a well that has substantial iron and dissolved solids or whatever, I suggest you pay a little more and get a better filter. I'm on to buy a new filter after less than a month.

Great whole house sediment filter. I change mine out about once a year to remove any dirt pulled up from the well. My well is pretty clean and I could do without it but this filter does a great job of catching all the tiny suspended particles that do get into the supply. These larger filters are much better than the small cartridge style filters as sold in the big box hardware stores & Amazon's prices are good.
