I saw several reviews that made me wonder whether there was an eraser included or not. Good news! There is. When you uncap the pencil, just reconnect the cap on the other end - pull the little silver cap off, and there it is! Fear not, those who need an eraser! Works and feels great.

It looks beautiful; a conversation stopper everytime I pull it out. It's silky solid with a little weight that makes the lead glue to the surface of the paper. The graphite-lead is held tight in place, no wiggling or slippage. This beauty's cap clicks firmly into its open and close positions (you'll know what I mean when you get yours). I love looking at it and feeling it craddle in my hand. The instrument is a little shorter than a regular lead/mechical pencil; the shortness compliments the weight factor making the graphite spread evenly across the surface. Beautiful design, top quality material, with a refillable eraser--seasoned lead-pencil users know the value of this little addition. It's inexpensive, high quality material, precisionly crafted, great design, wonderful to hold--what do you think all this mean? It's not gonna last, Pentel is gonna realize this and jack up the price. I have three--I wish each of my fingers have the capability to write so I could buy one for each digit. Buy, buy, buy.

Update Note on 1/14/2012: The price has dropped since my 2008 purchase. So it is natural to assume something changed, quality maybe. You should read more current reviews before your purchase. My original review was over four years ago, and my affection for this lead pencil still stands.

This is my second Kerry style mechanical pencil. My other is over 15 years old and writes as well as the day I bought it. This is a well balanced pencil and one of my favorites. I recommend it.

I have purchased all types of mechanical lead pencils: All the way from a hundred dollar to a ten dollar pencil -- and this is the most pencil I have gotten for my money. Most other pencils out there are either too heavy (weigh down the pocket), or do not have a "slick", cool look to them, or do not operate as I would like them to, or are too flimsy. This Pentel Kerry, however, looks great, works great, and the price is very fair.

I work in engineering and live by these things. There was another model I used and that I loved - but they're not made anymore. I searched long and hard to find a replacement that works reliably and without jamming, and this model is it. My lastest order was for three of them - so I can have spares if I lose my primary one.

i just recieved back surgery for spondylolasthesis... painful, and i have been out of school for a month. i received a gift card from family for amazon and looked for a nice mechanical pencil and pen to help me through the strenuous make up work i had ahead of me. i chose this wonderful pencil... which yes, does have an eraser (take the cap off the point end and replace it on the other side. then, take off the little metal cap that you click to advance the lead... there it is)which i don't use because it is small and i don't want to buy replacements. i use a "Faber Castell DUST-FREE 18 71 20 Clean and Soft Erasing" as an eraser for the KERRY pencil. for lead, i recomend using "Pentel super hi-polymer leads. i chose the 0.7mm version out of pure preferance... i write with heavy hands and require thick lead sizes (i haven't broken any lead yet... AMAZING for me). i have no complaints with this pencil, in fact i love everything about it, the way the cap recaps on the other side and adds the perfect balance while writing, the look of the grille and metallic black finish (its survived many drops... not even a scratch), and most of all how smooth/comfortably it writes which is important when you have hours and hours of tutors, make up work, and even pleasure writing ahead of you (its best use). i deeply thank pentel and all of its manufacturors as well as goldenflyfisher (my shipper)for this (yet another) wonderful product by pentel. if any-one has any question about this pencil leave it in as a review for this item... i will check daily and get back to you (i have little - no doubt that you love this pencil).

p.s. the pen i chose (5 stars... two thumbs up) is the "Pilot Varsity disposable fountain pen - black ink"

I'm a professional illustrator. I do all of my line work with pencil. I load these guys (I use a .5 and a .7) up with a soft lead, and I am off to the races. I've been using them for over a decade. They've never broken or let me down. Worth every cent. May they never go out of production.

Update May '15: If anyone is wondering about durability, mine survived over 5 years of use, including numerous falls to the floor. I'd already bought a couple more and will probably do so again. The mechanism itself is still going strong; what broke was the thinner threaded area on the plastic lower barrel. (Not sure what plastic it is made of; my attempts to glue it back together with model cement only made it worse.)

(Original review, Sept '09:)

I've been having trouble with lesser pencils (especially a certain design whose claim to fame is having two clutches) breaking the leads into tiny pieces, so I willing to risk ~US$10+shipping for a chance to not be clicking incessantly during class, much less exams. So far, so good; I will probably buy more. I agree with most of the reviews, though comparisons to a Lamborghini might be a *bit* much!

So, I've been using this pencil for just a couple of days now, and the first thing I thought was "how odd that this really nice pencil doesn't include an eraser." As I revisited this page to review it, I noticed the product description says what sort of replacement eraser it takes.

To reveal the (very small) eraser, you must snap the cap onto the back end of the pencil, as when writing. This will make the silver button at the top of the cap extend. Pull this button out from the cap to reveal the eraser. Similarly the button of the top of the pencil body is removed to refill the leads. Might have been nice if they'd put little grooves in the cap's button as they did with the pencil's button to make it easier to remove.
