I have been buying white pencil topper erasers for my pencil drawing because of the edge -- to erase small/tight areas and to highlight -- but any edge wears down really quickly on them. With these cylinder shaped erasers you can use an x-acto knife to shave them to a thin chisel line or to a smaller circumference (if you want), and whatever type of rubber these Pentel ones are made out of takes longer to wear down than regular erasers. I've included a picture with one of the click erasers I cut into a chisel. Having a thin eraser is extremely useful.
There are a couple of drawbacks to these:
1) these don't work all that well on colored pencils. Regular erasers are better. I think maybe because there's some grit in regular erasers and that helps cut through the wax, while there isn't any grit in these click erasers. And if the colored pencil is drawn on thick enough these tend to smear as much as erase it. But on the plus side, that lack of grit means they are gentler on your drawing paper.
2) as someone else here pointed out, you can't erase with them if you're holding them perfectly upright because it just retracts back up into the tube. You either have to erase at an angle or tape the clip to the barrel.
For larger areas or stubborn pencil marks I would probably still use the pencil topper or a hand held eraser, but when I want to erase close-in and clean up details, these click erasers work quite well.
I hate having to take off a cap to reveal an eraser that may be worn way down.
I also hate having to figure out how to replace a worn eraser on most pencils.
No problem with this, just slide it down and when it's done, replace the long eraser (or just grab a new one).
The only time I don't use this with a mechanical pencil (or regular) is with my staedtler pencils with a twist eraser.
This stick eraser erases cleanly and can always be just the right length.
My opinion is 100% my own - good or bad. I hope you found this review helpful. If so, I'd appreciate you clicking the "helpful" button!
