The best, most relevant book I've read on how government should function

I've just completed your book. You have succeeded in providing a manifesto for the future. It is well thought out, logical and inspiring.

Government's role is to provide ground rules and boundaries and then get the hell out of the way.

I would add one more item to Electoral Security - institute congressional term limits. Government service should be an altruistic commitment not a career. The longer a person (or institution) exists the more bureaucratic and concerned about self-preservation it becomes, rather that focusing on it original purpose.

I also believe all laws should have a sunset clause and pass preordained performance metrics in order to be reenacted. Run government like a service business. If it's not 'profitable' (effective) change or eliminate it.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your perspective. I only wish we could find a presidential candidate that had these views.

I know Simon personally, so this review is not objective. That said, what you may not know at first glance is that Simon is a global thought leader in market research and that he studied political science before entering industry. Simon also experienced authoritarian regimes in South Africa and Kenya, so he knows how bad things can get when societies and politics go off the rails.

With these disclosures and caveats, in my opinion this book is well researched, logical, beautifully written, and inspiring. It provides specific and practical solutions to serious problems in American society and politics. I hope "For The People" is widely read. The US political system is functionally dysfunctional at this point in time, so solutions must come from we the people. This book is full of timely solutions.

And, importantly, he has articulated these challenges so expertly that they become real and appear to suddenly be within the scope of common citizens to address in a meaningful way. This is not the rambling of an esoteric pie-in-the-sky thinker, but a well-researched account of how we have developed the dysfunctional environment that we have created for ourselves. His Manifesto at the end of the book brings his thoughts together to create a roadmap for the cultural changes we must pursue. This is an important book for these times and for all of us to in order to find our way back to sanity.

A Compelling Analysis From A Thoughtful Citizen

Upon reading “For The People,” I couldn’t help but be reminded of the pamphleteers of America’s founding decades, men like Thomas Paine, brilliant but down-to-earth thinkers who made a compelling case for a new kind of society. The book is subtitled, after all, “A Citizen’s Manifesto,” and throughout it we hear the voice not of a stuffy academic, but a highly learned and articulate citizen arguing a common-sense solution to our nation’s ills.

Even more impressive is the frame that Chadwick employs to analyze our current predicament and provide a vision of what America could be. His argument, structured around psychologist Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, offers an eye-opening insight that can change one’s entire view of what a government, society and nation is all about. It also unifies Chadwick's wide-ranging and well-sourced exploration into a coherent and highly readable form.

I recommend “For The People” to anyone interested in understanding what America can be, and in taking a thought-provoking journey alongside a citizen of great learning, wisdom and heart.

No matter what your political persuasion I see this as a must read

If only every American would read Simon Chadwick's For the People, A Citizen’s Manifesto to Shaping Our Nation’s Future…. I say every American because I believe that no matter what his or her political persuasion, most Americans feel we are experiencing a societal breakdown. We may ascribe different causes for our breakdown and in doing so I feel there is a tendency to lose the forest through the trees. The author, who has enjoyed a career successfully managing companies that collect and analyze date has done an insightful job of addressing where we have gone off the rails.( And he was published earlier this year even before COVID-19 and the death of George Floyd exacerbated the crisis.)

Like me, not every reader will agree with his proposed solutions, but they are well thought out and I feel doable. For the People has the potential to make America a better place for every level of society.

As Americans struggle to choose the shade of old age pensioner they wish to elect as President , this book offers a breath of fresh air to the debate. Impeccably researched, it offers an easy to read political analysis of The American Dream’s progress from its Constitutional origins through to the challenges of the present day. It culminates in nothing less than the suggestion of a detailed Democratic Libertarian Manifesto which does not flinch in seeking fundamental changes across all sides of the Party Political spectrum.

From an academic standpoint the arguments are structured with great care ( and some caveats) around psychologist Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Whether it be the market driven needs of an unfettered business economy, or meaningful support in all its forms for the disadvantaged, or respect for the environment , gun laws, foreign affairs—all the burning issues of our times are addressed. Chadwick offers no silver bullets. His analyses seek the harder but more sustainable path of balanced solutions, drawing heavily on insights from his own distinctly multi-facetted personal experiences.

His childhood in South Africa came to an abrupt end when his father, a widely respected Anglican Bishop, was expelled from that country for anti apartheid activity. Returning to England, he graduated from Oxford University into a business career providing international market intelligence to many of the World’s leading companies. For the last 28 years he has lived and worked in the United States, of which he is now citizen. His experience as CEO of several sizeable companies on both sides of the Atlantic lends authenticity to the many comparisons, both favourable and unfavourable, of practices and thinking in the US, Europe and elsewhere.

For anyone who has ever wanted to shout at ideologically hidebound TV pundits of any political persuasion but has never had the time or the words to do so , this book is for you.

Our society, along with Corona, has to seize the opportunity to change towards a more egalitarian, non-xenophobic society based on equal justice.

The style of writing is both scientific, social-political as well as laced with a smart tonality of a novelist.

While using the Maslow hierarchy model the book presents a concept for developing a healthy society but also takes a step further and not only diagnoses the pathology of modern society, it suggests a constructive way to come out of this.
