You get a lot of lace for the price

I picked this up after asking myself what happened to that lace stuff we used to do in the early 70's. You know the stuff... every one did at least one project at church camp or summer rec department class of your town. This lace has the same size and works easily. You get a lot of different colors for the price and each hank of lace could do several lanyards or key chains on its own.

You can find directions on the web for the various weave patterns. Look for Scoubidou, the original French name for the lace weavings from the late 1950's.

I remember the lace as being fiber with plastic coating. This lace is purely plastic. It seems strong enough and hasn't broke on me. I just remember the plastic coated fiber as being pretty tough. Maybe everything is tougher when you're a kid. If I find an old project from my teenage years in a box I'll update this concerning the change in quality over the last 40 years.

A last comment, it would have been nice if they had included a hank of red in the set, its conspicuously missing.

This lacing cord is perfect for beading those little animal keychains. My son is 6 and is able to secure each row very tightly, and as you know if you've ever beaded keychain animals, this is of vital importance. It allows us to keep their shape quite well as we work AND we can wind through each pony bead 4 times fairly easily for those tougher builds. My only complaint (and I don't know if it's a complaint or just some helpful advice) is that you have to be careful not to allow the bead to twist as you're working on your project. This is NOT round cord so it won't roll over and self correct as it gets twisted. It is easy to adjust, but if you don't make sure the cord is laying flat before you move on the animal will loose its shape and you will have to take it apart to make it lay flat.

My husband wouldn’t let him, just kept encouraging his efforts. Finally, on the last night, it clicked and he was able to complete a project. The boy was so pleased! Great lace for crafting and kids!

This lace is definitely what I wanted it to be. There's a nice variety of colors in this pack, including two whites and two blacks. The extra basic colors are nice, as those tend to get used much more often. The included tool is surprisingly useful when you're first learning to do basic stitching and get the idea of how it works. However, it isn't really usable at all for more advanced stitches, as they do not all start out so basic. The hooks and rings found in the set were also very convenient for a beginner. Though the package only came with two circle rings, there were several more of the other style, great for making lanyards. The only thing that I don't like about this product is that the folds from the packaging stay in the product, which can make it a little hard to stitch. However, I didn't deduct any stars for this, as it is fairly standard in any brand. Overall, I was very pleased.
