I really love this game to help my children learn about cell processes! They have been studying about cells and organelles and this game helped them talk about and practice what organelles do. They already learned about DNA transcription and translation and loved building the peptides. It really helped them consolidate their knowledge and we had a lot of good discussions about why the methods within the game play and why it was designed that way. Not only was the game super easy to learn, but also really fun! Right after playing it - they already wanted to play another round. The game is small and doesn't take up a lot of space - so we were able to take it with us and play it in a hotel. I love all the Genius Games and have played them with 10-12 year olds, as well as with other adults - and the games are consistently a hit! Thank you! Huge fan!
As a game it’s got some really fun strategy and is still pretty quick and light! It’s sort of like a worker placement style, but no actual workers - you take available cards instead. It didn’t take too long to figure out either - especially if you’re familiar with card games.
But the best part about this game is that it’s incredibly accurate to the process of how proteins are made. Wish they had this game in Biology class because that class would have made a lot more sense!!! I also think it's GREAT that the organelle cards have NO icons on them, just the organelle art and name. I love this because in only 5 mins, you’ve remembered the main function of each organelle in the process. And there's a great player-aid card anyway in case you are having trouble remembering.
HIGHLY recommend this game for gamers who want to “geek out” on a game with an accurate science themes, for teacher to use in a biology class, or family game nights!
Both the peptide game and the subatomic game by the same genius game maker have a glaring problem: winner take all. The person who is ahead in the game gets additional bonus points that puts him/ her so far ahead of the other players, that it is very demoralizing for the other players. Nobody likes to play these games in our household because it is hard to overtake the “ ahead “ player by luck or strategy. And as these games can easily take 2-3 hours and the other players are not vested, they get pretty boring very quickly. Of these, peptide is better in terms of sustaining interest; it is a shorter game ( though still a couple of hours) though similar rules and not as many game pieces.
We got both of these games (peptide and subatomic) for educational value for our kids, who love board games. These would have been educational if they were subject to repeated gameplay. Also, the first time they played kids just started calling them yellow cards or green cards instead of the scientific term. And since the rules were so confusing, the priority was to learn the game and education took a back seat.
An educational game, esp that catering to kids has to be quick to learn, quick to play, interesting, with hope till almost the end that anybody could win. The education portion was not too difficult to grasp for older elementary kids. Peptide is probably one of the last games they elect to play, of all their games. And since we play it so rarely, there is an element of anxiety to learn the rules all over again. For reference, we also have the elementeo game that they do enjoy.
Bought several copies to use in a class. Students either didn't really read rules ahead of time, or they weren't as clear as i thought. Once students got into the game it was great as an introduction in biology class to some basics of protein synthesis. Some details modified or left out to make it easier to design the game, but mostly accurate.
Fantastic, accurate game. I have a degree in biochemistry, and I think this game is amazing. Great way to learn some basics of biochem, and easy to play! My friends with less of a science background had a great time as well.
My husband and I have played this game a few times and have taught our game night guests. It’s fairly simple to understand because the phases are repetitive. I can’t wait to play it in my classroom with my college and level biology students! It’s close enough to what truly happens in the cell that it does make it a valuable learning tool.

It's basically the RNA translation process of biology/genetics, with card drafting and a points system. Players will learn real biology. The strategy is complex enough that there are different strategies to victory available. Plays acceptably with 2 players, but 3 or more is ideal.
