The heart of the book begins with a young boy, Edward, who is about to be shipped off to military school. We follow him during the Normandy invasion and through the death camps of Germany, where he falls in love with another male soldier. After saving a woman, Edward is severly burned and shipped back and away from the man he loves. He falls for his nurse, Florence, and they get married. From here, the book is the very definition of five degrees of seperation. You will be taken on an emotional ride throughout as Cromwell brillantly tackles the perception of sins. What is a sin to one, may not be a sin to someone else, especially when it comes to love.
Out of all the lifes Cromwell gives us a peek into, the one that is really heartbreaking is, Melonie. I felt for her throughout as her story comes full circle.
I was engaged with this story from the beginning. A few hiccups here and there, but nothing that would keep this from being a five star read.
5 degrees of seperation out of 5
This is a riveting tale of lives spanning three generations, lives touched by tragedy, deception, denial, and greed. Cromwell has woven the lives and the sins of the characters with skill and talent.
This book gives us insight into human nature and human frailty. It is a tale of revenge and of karma for the character's misdeeds. I am hard to surprise, but the ending surprised me. A great read!
Very gripping. Some editing issues. Full of life.
