I regret not reading these books sooner. The story is really action packed and hilarious. It was fun to watch the characters go on their adventures and evolve as individuals. I really liked the modern twist to each of the gods. Despite the fact that this book is supposed to be for kids, it's a great series for people of all ages. I got myself this box set as soon as I had a few bucks. I look forward to reading Riordan's HoO series and the Kane Chronicles.
I originally wanted to get the hardcover box set with the first edition covers, but it was too expensive. I decided to get the paperback edition with John Rocco's new art on it instead. These covers are amazing. They make me want to keep reading the books over and over again. I highly recommend these books to anyone and everyone.
I'm so much in love with Percy' world.
Percy is a very strong character.
He's charming, funny, brave, weak, and some times dumb(laugh).
His comment always make me laugh so hard, but have to agree with him at the same time.
I don't know how the author could create such a world of myth so strong like this.
I went from nearly no knowledge about Greek myth (except for Poseidon who has been my favourite god since I was little) to be quite a good presenter about the gods...(laugh).
The story in this series felt so Real you could question yourself 'did I miss something?'.
All the characters are also so great.
Not enough good words for this series.
Absolutely The must read, and the must have books (not only kindle, believe me, they are worth to be kept as book too!)
PS: It just happened to me to want to write the review after 7 years since finishing the books....weird (laugh)
For the novels themselves, I think anyone who hasn't gotten caught up in Riordan's tale of half-bloods and quests and those ever lovable Greek Gods and Goddesses (not so lovable as parents, it turns out), then you need to drop whatever you are doing and read these books. Like Harry Potter, I feel like PJO will appeal to all ages - it certainly did to me, and I didn't pick these up until I was 18. Oh, and I'm a girl and I absolutely love these books, so don't think that just because the main character is a boy that girls won't like these books. Riordan's writing is phenomenal; he's supremely talented at sarcasm, dry wit, action and adventure, and certainly suspense. His characters are fantastic and he really captures the emotion and personality of everyone he writes, no matter the age or race (human, demigod, mythical being, it doesn't matter). Percy and the gang feel like my close and person friends, family even. That's a hard thing to accomplish unless you're a master storyteller. Don't forget to check out The Heroes of Olympus, the series that follows after the events of The Last Olympian. If you thought PJO was fantastic... well, just you wait.
Despite having new covers, they still feel like the Percy Jackson books I read thanks to John doing the illustrations for both sets. I highly recommend this set to anyone - this set makes a good addition for anyone, whether it's their first set of Percy Jackson books or their second (or third!). I just hope no one else ends up with their's looking so rough as mine did - who knows though? Maybe our lovable half-bloods were causing a scene with the Amazons that day and that's why I ended up with a damaged product.
