So what is the secret of this diet? Basically you have to stop eating sugar. With that said I wish this book had included a chapter on healthy sugar substitutes. Dr. Aziz talks about Stevia and uses agave in his recipes. To this doctor, sugar is only to be used as a very occasional treat. He makes the point over and over again about sugar being the worst thing you can eat. And the problem is, sugar is in everything - especially low-fat foods.
One thing I really have to get beyond is thinking fat will make me fat. This diet encourages you to eat 40 percent of your calories from fat. That means you can have butter, coconut oil, avocados, olives, whole milk, cheese and nuts. It sounds too good to be true but more and more authors are now stating that saturated fats are actually good for you. Dr. Aziz explains why polyunsaturated oils and trans fats are really bad to eat.
After reading this book you may start doing some things differently. Like instead of eating strawberries with a sugary vanilla syrup and sweetened whip cream you may be more satisfied with just strawberries and unsweetened heavy cream. Or instead of drinking coffee with tons of sugar you may sweeten your coffee with stevia. You may also start eating whole-wheat bread instead of white when you learn that white bread is worse than sugar. Potatoes are also something you don't want to eat daily, especially not deep fried.
Some of the shocking things I read in this book include the fact that soy protein contains MSG and that soy protein isolate is bad to eat. Most of the raw foods books I've read say soy is no longer good to eat and this book explained why. I also appreciated the information on why alcohol can increase the risk of breast cancer.
I learned so many things while reading this book that I felt I had read one of the most important diet books on the market. If you are worried about your weight or want to avoid heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, fatigue, lowered immunity, depression and cancer then you should read this book as soon as possible. I read the Kindle book but I'd recommend you get the hardcover or paperback.
If Dr. Michael Aziz's discussion of DHEA interests you you should read: The Metabolic Plan: Stay Younger Longer. It talks about taking 7-Keto DHEA which I think is safer and won't cause an increase in testosterone.
Throughout the book there are many different supplements that you might want to consider. I'd suggest reading a book on each one to make sure they are safe to take in the quantities recommended.
While there are some great recipes in this book I'm wondering if a Perfect 10 Diet Cookbook is in the works. Hopefully one will be produced soon. Some of the recipes in this book include:
Chicken Lettuce Wraps
Shrimp in Garlic Butter
New York Style Cheesecake
Strawberries Dipped in Chocolate

So the diet is pretty much good carb, good fat but it makes sense and the first day I struggled a little being hungry, but the days following I have had energy and feel great. The basics of the diet is 40% carbs ( rye bread FTW ), 40% fats ( no more skim milk products ) and 20% protein. The first three weeks though there is no grains, so it was a little challenging for me but by the third day I was feeling great. I love it as he encourages fruit which so many of the other diets now shun it. Raspberries have become a power fruit for me, as well as nuts and seeds! I have done many many diets in my past. Weight Watchers, Atkins, SouthBeach, no fat, liquid and this diet just makes sense.. Staying away from eating processed foods, eating natural and eating for energy and fullness.
I have ordered the book, and subscribed on the Facebook page for more support- I loved the audio book for reinforcement, but really want the paper book as well to reference faster. Also the bonus book is a great resource as it maps out the chapters in detail, I just want paper to take notes and track my diet more. I don't really look at this as a diet, more as a life changing and eye opening reference. I have done so much harm to my body, its about time something makes sense and doesn't make me hungry and crazy!
