Pros - Well designed: the side pads to protect the door frame, the two-way adjust-ability. Strong: now that it's adjusted as described in the instructions, and with my full 200+ lbs hanging on it, it doesn't flex and it doesn't produce any scary noises.
Cons - 1. Bar diameter is only 1 inch. Even with the padding on the handles, it doesn't feel comfortable. I would have preferred 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 inch diameter - and I don't have big hands! 2. The instructions are not this product's strongest point. Considering that on most pages there's a warning saying "Be careful or you could die", I would expect clear and detailed instructions. As I assembled the product, I had several of those "Oh, that's what they meant" moments, as I had to add some trial&error steps to the process. Finally, some minor issues with the bolts and nuts. Possibly because of the black coating tightening the tolerances, one of the long bolt+nut pairs was impossible to just hand-tight, I had to use the wrenches.
Added bonus: if you have a border collie mix, he'll find the instructions delicious.
I've had this up for a couple weeks now, and have gone from not even being able to do one pull-up to be able to do six on the "easy" handles if I really push hard on the last one. When I get to ten, I'm going to start working on underhanded pull-ups. So, it is certainly serving its intended purpose well and has been a great and low-cost investment in upper body strength. I'm also using it for dips and push-ups (can't do regular ones because of RSI problems in my wrists).
I keep this bar hanging in our bedroom doorway all day so that it's convenient to stop and do some pull-ups if I'm passing by. My two teenagers and my 8 year old have also gotten into it, although none of them are even close to me in pull-ups yet LOL.
I haven't run into any of the hardware issues some buyers have noted, but like others said, don't over-tighten the screws. The instructions were very clear, accurate and detailed, and it was easy to assemble. The storage space in the door frame bar for the two hex wrenches is really convenient. Periodically, check the screws for tightness. I've had to re-tighten them a couple of times, but that's to be expected in a piece of exercise equipment like this.
This pull-up bar is a great value, and I'd still buy it again.
— ASSEMBLY —
The instructions could be... clearer. I wish someone from IKEA made the directions. The pictures are so tiny for you to differentiate the smaller parts and the wording feels unnecessarily complicated. Plus, they mention an "acorn nut," when the only thing in there is an "allen nut," so that made me confused and think I had missing pieces. I read the instructions carefully and used common sense to put this together.
There is nothing to screw into the wall; this stays up because of physics. Physics magic!
— ADAPTABILITY —
The bar has some adjustability, mainly for fitting door size standards. You can change the bolts around to ensure this is secure and tight on your doorway. The long bar itself is one width and is not meant to be adjustable.
— USING THE BAR —
The main reason for this is pull ups. If you haven't done one recently, they are hard—even if you think you are fit enough. You can lift yourself up in many ways to work out slightly different upper body muscle groups.
You can easily remove this and put it at the bottom of your door to serve as "hands" on your feet when doing sit-ups as well.
— SUMMARY —
This is a lightweight, and easy-to-assemble and install piece of fitness hardware.
