Others-centred leadership, having been clearly modelled for us in the life of Jesus, is now our premier calling, according to Ken Boa in this book. We are called now, not to be served in this world, but to serve and to give our lives away; by losing our lives we will discover them in their truest sense. Expending energies and resources in the interest of others can be exhausting, but the most effective leaders are servants.

The book is divided into three parts, describing the attributes, skills and relationships of the perfect leader respectively. The attributes include integrity, character, values, purpose and passion, humility, and commitment; the skills include vision casting, innovation, decision making, problem solving, and team building; the relationships include communication, encouragement, exhortation, building relationships, and servant leadership.

There are plenty of books available on leadership in general and Christian leadership in particular. This book aims to be a bit different by beginning with God as the ultimate model of leadership, and focusing on particular attributes of God to provide insights on leadership principles, hopefully prompting the reader to engage in self-examination. This seems like a good approach, although some readers might find the book to be just like many other leadership books but with more quotes from the Bible included.

This book is awesome. The author does a good job providing a picture of The Perfect Leader, by using Christ as the perfect model. Kenneth Boa is a great writer, and this is just one of many of his books that I love.

I can't begin to say how much I was impacted by this book. It's sound in Biblical values and makes you look at your own life and how you conduct business, even on a personal level.

This book caused me to carefully consider what it means to be called to leadership in the church, what my strengths are as a leader, and areas in which more growth is needed.
