I can't wrap my head around this one! Teresa has done it again! She has given me a story that I just can't stop replaying over and over again in my head!
So, we have Lie (Delilah). She has been tossed aside by her mother. She was a product of a rape. Her mother was a teenager when she had her. She made sure she let Lie know how much she ruined her life up until she threw her in a youth center. Once Lie heads south to start over, she just can't forget the things that have brought her there, including Brock.
Brock. Lie meets him in the youth center. Their friendship turns to something else... I wouldn't say love. More like obsession. This topic is something I can't really go too deep into without spoiling the book. Lie pines for him. She feels lost and worthless without him. He is gone. She can't have him.
Enter Abel. He is a mystery. Lie just can't figure him out, yet she is drawn to him. She thinks he is just like everyone around him, but at the same time she knows he is different. Their attraction is apparent. Her reluctance is understandable.
This story is like a volcano waiting to explode. It has a few minor eruptions throughout, but when it erupts... Whew! Things sure fall into place and I was left sitting there thinking WTF just happened!
I won't lie, you will be a little lost here and there. The crypticness of the book can be a little disarming for some. Hang in there. It is all worth it in the end! And that ending! WTF! Yes, WTF! I can't describe it. I sat there for a while once I finished it looking for the signs. I just didn't see them. Nothing pointed me to where the story went! And that, in itself, makes this book even more genius!
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Yes, yes yes! This book has everything in it. I loved it.
Someone told me NOT to read others reviews or it would spoil it for me, so I didn't.
I saw a couple of clues in this book, but not the one where he said "not to go to school today" as this was of paramount importance!
The book had me hooked, I had to read this in one sitting, thank goodness I didn't have many interruptions today as I'd have been in a sulk!
Teresa Mummert has written an outstanding book, I cannot rave about this enough, you must must must must, read this.
The dynamic between the characters is really unique in this story. There is Delilah who is emotionally damaged and is struggling to make a new life for herself. She has memories of Brock, the first boy she loved. And then there is Abel who comes into her new life and the interactions between them is passionate and volatile. They are full of witty sarcasm and banter one minute and yelling at each other the next. Brock and Abel are built slightly different and have different coloring but they both are well muscled and very sexy. All of the characters had unique personalities and I found myself feeling all kinds of emotions on their behalf.
The engaging characters, highly intriguing plot, and a little bit of mystery all came together for a fantastic book that blew me away. I found myself thinking about this book long after I finished it and to me, that is the sign of a great book. Fantastic job and a 5 out of 5 stars from me!
What the heck did I just read? I don’t get it. Seriously. I finished this book last night and I’m still trying to figure it all out. I read the synopsis before I signed up for an ARC. The plot seemed interesting to me, but when I started reading it things just went downhill. I think I get where the author was going with this story, but from the description I was under the impression that I was reading a new adult contemporary. I’m not going to go into any more detail than that because I don’t want to give any of the story away and once you get towards the ends things take a really strange turn.
As far as the characters go I didn’t like Delilah or Lie for short. I understand she had a rough childhood and grew up under horrible circumstances, but I just couldn’t like her. She was constantly crying over something.
Abel. I liked him. Can’t say exactly why, but I liked him. I don’t agree with some of the stuff he did, but other than that he seemed likeable.
You know, I’m just going to stop right here. This here story is a complete mind****. I feel like I’m missing some very vital information where it’s concerned. Almost as if parts of the story were left out. I’m confused. Things were going on pretty good and them bam *shocker*
I really want to tell you all about it but it would take the pure unbelievable love story and a blow-you-away-ending away from you and I cannot to that. Take this journey with Lie and Abel, you will not regret it. It is amazing!
YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK NOW! DROP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE PLANNED AND READ THIS BOOK! IT IS TRULY THAT AMAZLINGLY GOOD.
I am just going to end this review with that it is one hell of book and you will forever be changed by this book. It will stay with you for days and days.
