Here in A Perfect Moment, I'd like to think that I resemble Jo as a caring sister who didn't make an issue about her brother's feelings for her best friend. The female main character, Ella, got that perfect moment to catch her fiance doing the deeds with his ex-lover. Huh, lots of guys seems to be doing that lately (on the books I read, not IRL). She steered clear of guys after that, but life seemed to be playing tricks on her, because on the night of her bestfriend's wedding, she got a kiss from Jo's brother, Preston, and boy, what a mind-blowing kiss that was!
Soon, Ella realized Jo's baby bro was no longer a baby after all. In fact, he had grown muscles and biceps so taut and delicious that made her mouth water and drool. Oh, yes, Preston wasn't so little anymore! They got a cat-and-mouse relationship while growing up, but now, the cat turned meek while the mouse got big. She wanted to trust Preston with all hear heart, but she couldn't. Not when she thought that she was older than him, and he was her best friend's little bro.
The perfect moment for them came when a renegade fire fighter stirred hot feelings for Ella and emotionally lit fire in Preston's life. After getting accused of arson, Preston vowed to protect Ella against Ben and swore to find out the truth, even if it resulted to them hanging on to their dear lives.
And I swear, I wasn't able to put this book down, even when my Kindle device threatened to go dead on me. You'd think this was just like any other love story where the bro chased his sister's BFF until she ultimately fell for him. I thought that was the case, too. But I was so wrong, because there's more than their relationship. There were the Calendar boys crawling their way to my heart. There were the steamy scenes that got me hot and bothered and dizzy. There was that broken man who sought revenge and didn't stop until Preston was killed. The suspense was killing me. The action was almost palpable, I thought I was in the actual story. It had me wide-eyed while imagining the death-defying scenes that the characters had been through, not just once, but twice!
And believe me, I cursed my Kindle apps and devices a million times whenever I got low-battery alert while reading this book. I had to rush to my room to get all my battery/cellphone chargers to make sure my reading would be interrupted. Yep, that's how engrossed I've been with this Becca Lee novel. I can't believe this is the first time I read her book. I need to catch up with all her stories from now on.
“I couldn’t help the goofy grin from appearing on my face. I nodded a little too enthusiastically. I really needed to work on the art of cool. At the moment, I was grinning and nodding like a dog who’d just been scratched.”
“Is your hair that shade of red naturally? ‘Cause one time, I attempted to dye mine, and it went pink. Like crazy-fluoro pink; #@, even dogs howled at me in the street when I walked by, but yours-“
“Hell… you could stink of dog #@ and fart gremlins and he’s still be a lovesick pup around you. It’s pretty sad really.”
A Perfect Moment was my virgin experience with the talented Ms. Becca Lee - and I have since added the rest of this series to my kindle, as she became an instant addiction. The storyline and writing were humorous, fun, sweet, entertaining, intriguing, occasionally steamy, and all engrossing. It was a quick read, and I was ever so thankful for that, as I could not seem to put my beloved kindle down once I started. I adored these feisty, clever and amusing characters and their witty banter, sweet and supportive relationships, mishaps, and humorous antics. More please!
What worked - I loved Ella and Preston. He was so smitten with her, and while he tried not to overwhelm Ella, he didn't try to act cool about it. Ella is a tough chick. She has been burned once, and doesn't want to put her heart on the line again. She is a hard one to pin down, but Preston is patient and persistent. There are lots of funny moments, too, which I adore in my romance reads. Good secondary characters. The writing was smooth and sharp. Sweetly hawt sex scenes.
What didn't work as well - There was a subplot involving a coworker of Preston's that seemed...I don't know...pointless, I guess. I get that he provided conflict, but I would have rather had a few more conversations between Preston and Ella about the primary conflict, which was Ella's unwillingness to take a chance. The subplot wasn't bad, I just didn't really see the need for it. The subplot led to a TSTL moment for the heroine.
Although Ella and Preston had known each other for most of their lives, they still moved pretty darn quick. A week is not a lot of time, but then again, when it's right, it's right.
*Note - Although the characters are 26 and 28, A Perfect Moment read like a New Adult book. Not a bad thing, just worth a mention.
Bottom line - Time and money well spent. I thought the story was sweet, and I really liked Ella and Preston.

Becca Lee certainly knows how to kick start an amazing book- plenty of tears and angst and laughter and this all literally occurs in the first chapter. The story focuses on Ella and how having her heart smashed to smithereens on her almost wedding day causes her to doubt love and ever achieving her Perfect Moment.
Ella's character is superb. She's down-to-earth, sparky, intelligent and full blown neurotic and completely identifiable with a lot of women out there. Her best friend Jo makes her fantastic debut in the first chapter coming to Ella's aid when a healthy dose of revenge and impulsive decisions are needed to take out the trash. This had me laughing out loud (to the annoyance of my three-year-old trying to watch Paw Patrol) and just gave me a good feeling about the rest of the book. And I wasn't wrong. It didn't just start with a bang and fizzle out after, it kept the momentum going. It was fresh and witty and not a paddle-wielding-billionaire-business man in sight (thank god).
The hero to Ella's heroine is none other than her smart-mouthed and trouble-making b.f.f's 'baby brother' Preston. I use baby sarcastically because this fine specimen of man is only two years younger than our protagonist and a sexy as sin firefighter/surfer (where can I find me one???) Again Preston's character just shines off the page. He's sweet, sexy but has that immature goof-ball sort of quality that a lot of men are still in possession of at twenty-six and it's simply beautiful to witness him reveal his age old feelings for his friend Ella and in turn watch Ella work through her emotions and neurosis making the progression from friend to lover with Preston. Theirs is a lovely loyal solid friendship with a boat load of hot monkey sex and forever-after-love to hold it all together.
Can't wait to read the second in the series if it's anything as good as this one...and I'm positive it will be. If you're looking for something a bit lighter with a ton of humour and romance seriously 1-click this baby now!
Read in one sitting.. I'll definitely be reading more by this writer. Looking forward to Jo's story. Thank you.
This was a personal buy. I read it over summer, and it's what I call a 'big grin book' :D My cheeks were hurting by the end of it.
A great comedy romance, where the humour is wonderfully blunt in places, with the ability to throw a punch.
Recommended if you're looking for a pick-me-up over a couple of hours. Will have you smiling for the rest of the day :)
I started this book reading about another couple...will they, won't they story line but my god from the middle to the end the story completely kicked ass!!!
So you start putting the pieces together and the tension begins to build.....
Completely loved the characters, the story line and the immense edge of your seat can't turn the page quick enough feeling!
5 massive stars!!
Ella fancy not knowing about Prestons crush. Such a hottie but you saw him as a bestie. I had a bad feeling about Ben & sort of guessed his history. Jo great friend & sister. Her story looks good, can't wait.
Not too angsty, a bit of drama & suspense to keep you interested.
A HEA. After reading Unlit Star recently I needed a happy escape. Well done!
