Samantha, a minor beauty queen, receives a number of texts in the middle of the night. Pitcher DJ Thomas has slammed her title. To make amends, there is a forced meeting complete with roses and a public apology. When the two meet, sparks fly and they become enamored of each other. There is even a young son who likes the music that Samantha offers in his school. Samantha's obligations prohibit her from having a relationship, but the two find a way.
I liked the conflict in the story and the sex was actually sexy and interesting rather than perfunctory. The story was fun and a quick read. Be prepared to stay up to finish it!
This is a relatively short story (read in one setting in just a couple of hours), I felt that some aspects needed better closure (the relationship with his father, as one example).
There's an HEA, but you never get to read "I love you" between the characters. They never say it to each other, even though the author has made it clear they're in love. A letdown.
Samantha is a military brat who'd been shuffled from one place to another due to her father's career. The only thing constant in her life had been her love for music. Now as the Summer Queen, she has the chance to bring music into children's life with her charity. When a pitcher insults her on national television, she has no one to turn to because all of her friends had deserted her. I had hoped that she'd gain new friends along the story, but it didn't happen. I also wondered about the absence of her family--while her parents were mentioned, they didn't appear even after their daughter's name was splashed and shredded in the media. And how in the first place had she gotten into the pageant circuit when most of the time she seemed so unhappy about it?
DJ is a baseball pitcher spurred to succeed by an abusive father. As the sad case with abusive children mostly is, he reflects the abuse on his own son. True, the abuse is not physical, as he mostly crushes the child's dreams of learning music, but it's an abuse nonetheless. This point wasn't made clear in the story, and I believe it deserved to be called by its name. When Samantha tries to defend DJ's son's wish to study music, they run into an argument. But, she meekly draws back and time after time when he insults her, she takes him back. That could have turned into another abusive relationship if it wasn't for a teammate who gave DJ a halfhearted advice at the end of the story. And I am left wondering, what kind of army brat would be so meek?Read more ›
This is a wonderful read by a very talented author. Mindy mixes emotions and descriptions and creates a wonderful world for the reader. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
Get into your comfy clothes, poor a glass of wine, grab your favorite blanket and curl up with Perfect Pitch. I guarantee you won’t regret it!
This is a good short romance. Klasky's a good writer and a good storyteller. She even has me caring about baseball in this one. (I know, right?) But I relate to athletes and she nails the athlete's concerns.

Initially purchased because it looked like a fun quick read but it’s a very cliché affair between an athlete and beauty queen who just wants her dreams funded. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Kat
