About the authors

Åsa Gilland is an illustrator who comes from a background of graphic and surface design. She works in a combination of traditional and digital media and besides illustrating a number of children's books, her work has been featured in editorials, on textiles and stationary.
Ȧsa has lived in seven countries and loves to travel near and far with her two sons. She now lives in Indonesia with her family and two cats. Learn more about her work at asagilland.com, and follow her on Instagram at @asagilland.

Clare is a primary school teacher and children’s author who lives in South West England with her husband and two children. Clare does her best writing by the sea, which is lucky because she lives close to many beautiful beaches and the salty sea air.
When Clare isn’t writing stories she is inspiring children to write their own. Being a teacher gives Clare an outlet for her BIG ideas. Once she helped a class make a giant rice crispy cake that was so wide it wouldn’t fit through the door!
But her best idea yet has been putting pen to paper. Clare loves writing whacky but is particularly passionate about writing stories that help children deal with big feelings and difficult issues.
Clare is represented by Alice Williams of Alice Williams Literary.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2021This book is absolutely stunning! The illustrations are just so beautiful and the story even though it’s a bit sad has a beautiful message. It reminds us to live day by day, doesn’t matter what the future holds, here is the now and spend it with those you love. My two year old, chooses this book all the time, so much that sometimes I tell her to please choose another book so we can read a different story. The first time she saw the book she even called it “beautiful” herself. The cover is striking and pictures don’t do it justice. I’m not sure if my daughter loves it so much because (yes she loves nature) we are going through difficult times very similar to the story and she relates to the little girl or the beautiful illustrations and story. Regardless, I feel is a wonderful book specially for families going through the heartache of someone they love being sick.

chuckly21Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 17, 20255.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous book
I chose this book to buy due to the poignant message and inclusivity for children who have siblings who are poorly. I gifted this on to a hospice for them to give to a child and I received a lovely message back with a photo of the girl who received it. I love to play finders keepers with children’s books with heartfelt messages like this one and where someone can identify with the story even if it’s a painful one. We all need to feel seen and this boom does just that. I call myself find me kindly :-) I then share a reel of leaving the books or posting the book to help spread the kindness to the unsuspecting authors and I did this with this one too. Kindness

ElaineReviewed in the United Kingdom on July 24, 20205.0 out of 5 stars A FUTURE CLASSIC
This is an absolute brilliant book. It explores how a family deals with serious illness and offer each other hope as two sisters build a shelter. The writing and illustrations are brilliant. I would use this as a stimulus in foundation stage, key stage one, specialist settings, outdoor classroom/forest education and has a place in key stage two. It explores themes within PSHE - caring for each other, families, siblings and the environment. This could also be used as focus for all age assembly - Nursery - Year 6 in a primary school. This book should be in every primary classroom.
EversoslightlypottyReviewed in the United Kingdom on August 16, 20215.0 out of 5 stars Stunning and sensitive look at illness in a family through the eyes of a sibling
Gosh, this is a stunning and sensitively written story about illness in the family and the emotional affect this has on all family members. Seen through the eyes of a sibling, we feel alongside them the ups and downs of coming to terms with the impact that serious illness has on lives. Beautifully crafted words by Clare Helen Welsh and stunning illustrations by Asa Gilland make this a must for all classrooms and bookshelves.
