“I was supposed to go with you, wherever you went. We’re a team. You told me once that I had to have a place. Well, I finally figured out where it is. It’s with you.”
A Perfect Ten is the fifth book in the Forbidden Men series. Oren "Ten" Tenning is the college manwhore that no one takes seriously. Caroline is the little sister of Ten's best friend Noel (the hero of book 2 in the series). There's always been an attraction between the two of them, but Ten puts up barriers because he doesn't want to destroy his relationship with his best friend. One day Caroline hatches a totally crazy scheme involving Ten, and he doesn't even know it.
“What the f*** have you done to me Caroline? … Why couldn’t I stay away from you? … Why can’t I get enough of you? … What do I want to own every f***ing piece of you?”
To be completely honest, this was potentially gonna be another wildcard book for me. I almost didn't finish this book. I know I know, I hide from the tomatoes being thrown my way, but the first 50% I really wasn't connecting. LUCKILY I pushed and kept reading and ended up thoroughly enjoying by the end. Ten won me over and pushed his way into my heart.
Like I said before this book was really slow at the beginning, like really slow. But once Caroline and Ten stopped messing around and started dealing with the realities of their relationship I really started to enjoy this book. I love angsty stories, be it caused by romance or otherwise and the tension and issues they faced as a couple, I ate it up like the freaky angst wh*** I am. I'm glad I dipped my feet back into this series because I loved the first two books and cannot wait to continue reading the rest.
“How can I help you through this? What can I do to ease your pain, because I swear to God, I’ll do anything.”
She set her hand on her heart and looked up at me, her eyes filled with so much emotion, I swear, some of it overflowed, spilling into me. “Just love me,” she whispered.
“I do,” I promised.”
I finished this book cover to cover pretty quickly. I didn't hate it but I didn't necessarily love it either. Both the hero Oren/Ten and the heroine Caroline have things in their past that have obviously shaped who and what they are today. Which when I read, I thoroughly enjoy a good back story. I like to see how two characters have come to be who and what they are today. As their love story progressed, their biggest obstacle was the approval of her older brother / his best friend. Given the length of this book 427 pages, the biggest conflict was approval from big brother began to feel rather tired; especially when ALL of their closest friends and family knew they were dating and he was the only kept in the dark.
There were some great love scenes through out the book. As well as some laugh out loud moments especially with the heroine's two younger brothers. So with that in mind I gave this book three stars. Will be reading the rest of series - No most likely not. Would I read something else by this other - well maybe not sure
Ten did a complete 180 when it came to Caroline - he loved her so fiercely and changed everything about his lifestyle for her, without question mind you. He wanted to be with her and once they were finally on the same page that was it - they were together. When they moved in together he didn't have any regrets or second thoughts, it was natural for him. And, of course, who doesn't love his comments? I love his humor.
I absolutely loved this story, I had been waiting for it for so long since I was interested to see how it would play out. Ever since I read Noel Gamble's book I knew this couple would eventually be together. And Caroline? She was one of my favorite heroines of all time. She pushed past her comfort zone and just went for her man, She knew they were meant to be together and she didn't let any one or any thing get in her way. You go girl!
What I didn't like about this book: Noel's reaction to Caroline and Ten's relationship. Not cool. I don't want to spoil things for any one but he could have been so much more supportive. On the other hand, he's her older brother who basically raised her so I can understand his protectiveness. But, I still have to defend my boy Ten!
I loved this entire series so far and I would highly recommend all of these books. But, in the event that you are unable to get your hands on all of the books you must read A Perfect Ten and Be My Hero (Ten and Pick, respectively). Pick is a must read though - oh, how I love Pick.
