Additionally, I love how Mozer's writing brings sporty girls out into the limelight. She touches on the struggles of being a girl in the boy dominated world of baseball, but she also highlights the joys and high moments. In addition, there is a delightfully complex web of story revolving around family, friendships and even a hint of first love. You're going to want to get this for your MG readers, classrooms and libraries ASAP!
I am really hoping that Mozer is planning a third book in the Sweet Spot Series.
Samantha is a super sporty girl, yet you also know she is not going to allow anyone to call her anything but a great player. Moser does a superb job of showing what it is like to be a girl playing ball the world of boys and baseball. The best relationship thread is the growing warmth between Sam and her Step-mom, who understands and supports Sam in a way no else does. And, of course, there is her first love interest.
This book would be an excellent reading suggestion for a Mom/Daughter book club, or a discussion on women and girls changing roles in society. I highly recommend it.
