An excerpt from Perfection:
Jessica blinked and wiggled her toes. She could feel all of them, which was a good sign. Her fingers clutched a blanket close to her face, and they were a healthy pink, not blue. She let out a long breath, then another, and neither showed as condensation in the cold air. Because it wasn't that cold any more, she realized. It was warm. Perfectly, gorgeously warm. Like a bath drawn just right. Something crackled quietly on the other side of the den, and--
Wait a minute. Fingers? Blanket?
She stayed very, very still, trying to figure things out. Sometime in her sleep, she'd shifted back into human form. And sometime, the bear shifter -- Simon -- must have thrown a blanket over her and started that cheery little fire in a hearth backed into an alcove she hadn't noticed before. Which he would have needed hands to do, which meant he had to have shifted into human form, too, which meant--
She gasped, realizing it was smooth, naked flesh she was spooned against and not bear fur anymore.
"You cold?" he rumbled, snuggling her closer.
No, cold wasn't the problem. Suddenly, she was very, very hot.
Mmm, her inner wolf yawned and stretched. Perfect way to wake up.
Jesus, she barely even knew this guy!
I know my mate, her wolf purred.
She rolled in spite of herself, coming face-to-face with her mystery bear, now in human form.
"Um, hi," she managed, blinking at his hard, plate-like pecs. Resting her hands against them for lack of space.
Damn it, did the man specialize in deep, rumbly notes that touched every hidden corner of her soul?
She looked higher, holding her breath, and let her gaze wander over a chin thick with stubble, then glide over the baby-smooth skin of his cheeks. The bronze of his tan made the soft pink of his lips look extra pink and soft and--
Kissable, her wolf supplied. Really, really kissable.
She clenched a fist before she did something crazy like reaching out and touching those lips.
A little spike of aroused bear scent drifted to her nose, and his eyes closed. Was he imagining that, too? How good it would feel to touch and to be touched?
He opened his eyes, and she held her breath. Such blue, blue eyes. Eyes like the summer sky, bottled and then released in this dim den. Eyes that earned their own definition of blue, they were that bright and that deep.
Her heart beat a little faster, and his did, too. She could feel it under her hand.
His mouth opened. Closed. His nostrils flared and his cheek twitched.
The voice that sent the words into her mind wasn't her wolf's, and it wasn't the bear's baritone. It was a deep, scratchy bass as ancient as the mountains. As solid as bedrock, as deep as the earth.
Mate, it told her. This is your mate.
There was an indulgent smile behind the voice, but a hint of sadness that scared her, too. What did destiny have in store for her, if this was her mate?
The wind moaned outside. The fire flickered as a burning log shifted and fell. She shook her head a little and forced herself to breathe. She was just imagining things, right? It wasn't destiny talking to her. Just the rise and fall of the wind.
The man's eyes narrowed and swirled.
She stared and stammered and wondered what to say, what to do. God, it was like waking up to a shy morning-after without the benefit of the one-night stand.
"So...um..."She fished for something to say.
He raised one curved eyebrow. Might as well have turned her inner thermostat up at the same time, making her inner wolf yowl.
Told you he'd be cute, the wolf snickered.
She shook her head. Cute didn't begin to describe that face or the solid plates of steel under her hands.
More like hot. Smoldering hot. And Jesus, how was she supposed to resist that?

Series: Blue Moon Saloon
Author: Anna Lowe
Designation: Series Prequel Short Story, Not Recommended As A Standalone Paranormal Romance, No Cliffhanger Per Se but this short story is not intended to be read as a standalone. However, it does have HFN Ending (which eventually becomes HEA five years later in Book One of the Series, Damnation, but only after considerable conflict and angst. lol...)
Reading Platform: Kindle & Audiobook Editions
My Rating: FIVE DIVINELY ENTERTAINING STARS*****
I adore paranormal romance, and no one does it better than Anna Lowe! I've been a fan of Lowe's work for several years and enjoy everything she writes, but the Blue Moon Saloon Series has become my new favorite! I became officially hooked two years ago after reading Desert Moon, the first release in Lowe's The Wolves of Twin Moon Ranch Series and have followed her work since. I've been a lover of the written word for over 60 years and during that time, I've read an incalculable number of books, written by a diverse collection of talented authors. So when I say Anna Lowe is one of my favorites, that's quite a recommendation. It's a little hard to explain but I'll try. Lowe is what I like to call a triple threat. lol... I know, it sounds a little ominous but it's really not. You see, some authors are stronger in certain aspects of the process than others. They may have a great idea for a book or series but have difficulties developing the story and translating their thoughts to written words, while some may be good with words and story development but lack creativity and ideas. Lowe can create it, develop it, and write it, but Lowe's talent doesn't stop there. She's not only a truly gifted storyteller and skilled wordsmith, she's also one of the most reliable authors in the romance genre today, consistently penning unique and highly imaginative storylines, set in vividly depicted worlds, populated with fascinating characters who will surely capture your imagination as well as your heart. Lowe's books are all well crafted and well edited with beautiful covers. And Perfection is no exception! But as usual I digress, especially when I talk about my favorite authors, so let's discuss a few details about the story itself.
Perfection is a gripping, fast-paced, well-crafted paranormal romance filled to the brim with danger, drama, angst, fiery passion, steamy sex, dreamy romance, laugh-out-loud humor, and in this particular scenario, we have Mother Nature and a dangerous snowstorm as our antagonist. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well executed and flows effortlessly. But hands down, my favorite component of every Lowe story is her cast of relatable characters. I found them to be intriguing, engaging, well developed, and at times, hilarious. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, beautiful, plucky she-wolf Jessica 'Jess' Macks and handsome, burly bear-shifter Simon Voss. These two could not have been more different but complemented each other perfectly, and together were an absolute riot. I sniffed, snorted, and giggled through the entire book. There were quite a few times, I wanted to give Simon and Jess a swift kick in the butt but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and more than ready to dive into Damnation, the first book of the series. Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but for adult readers only since it does contain some steamy, dreamy love scenes! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've already purchased Damnation and Temptation, the first and second book of the series, and can hardly wait to dive in! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Two enemies thrown together by chance and forced to ignore their natural instincts in order to survive but soon discover they have more in common than either ever dreamed possible. No spoilers from me but I will say this... A beautiful, strong she-wolf trying to survive-check! A handsome, bear shifter forced to share his den-check! Mother Nature and one heck of a snowstorm-check! Fiery passion, steamy sex, and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more, including a very important lesson.... Don't rely on your grandmother's weather forecasting skills! lol....

OMG! I Read this book without moving and I loved it. It's another 5 star book for Anna Lowe, she is a auto buy for me. Yes, she's that good. So when she gave me this book I had a lot of other books to read but I couldn't help myself I was so excited. I of course did it backward I read books 1-3 first Sorry. But since I had and I enjoyed them so much, I knew I was in for a topsy turvey emotional ride. And I wasn't disappointed. I loved this story. Anna Lowe takes two characters and weaves a love story that builds to a HEA and its wholly believable. It's funny and poignant and super sexy. Everything I want in my paranormal romance novels. When the book came to its end I wasn't ready for it too, so I had to read books 1-3 again. Yes, they are that good. I bought it hook, line, and sinker. I loved Anna Lowe's characters. Their chemistry is so palpable from the moment they first saw each other, but I must say Anna Lowe is the master of the slow-burn, she can draw it out for us and make you enjoy the wait. I adored everything about this book. It's a high-five, and Oh yeah a must read recommendation! If you love paranormal romance, go, get your copy. Anna Lowe is a creative, innovative, enthralling author. Her storylines are so believable. She builds stories that providing amazing details that flesh out and enhance the story. This is a short sweet story, it's well written has a great pace and it flows well and it gives you everything you would get from a book four times its size in pages, that what I love about her books short sweet or long and totally involved you will enjoy it. Now I love this part of my review I give you a small taste to show you what I enjoyed the most when I read the story.

Not this one, a naughty voice in the back of her mind said. This one you’d love to tangle with. Tangle, tango, touch… She backed up even more quickly, shaking her head. What was wrong with her? The second her haunches were exposed to the bitter cold outside, she stopped. That den was her only means of survival. Her last chance. And anyway, she had to be the only shifter crazy enough to be out in this storm, right? When she stepped back into the shelter, her body nearly sighed, and not just from the switching-off effect that had on the whipping wind. She peered into the darkness. If she’d been in human form, she’d have whispered into the low cave. Anybody home?
Simon tried not to stare. He really did. But every nerve in his body seemed to pulse with a dozen mixed messages at the same time. Kiss her. Kill her. Lick her. Take her. Throw her out. Touch her. Talk to her. Make her mine. Which meant he had no hope in hell of getting his eyes to stop bugging out any time soon. No hope of doing anything but standing very, very still. Mate. Mine. Mine! his bear roared inside. A good thing that message didn’t slip out, because he’d deafen the both of them with the force of that roar. Breathe in. Breathe out, he ordered himself. Breathe deeply and quit scaring her.
This isn't the whole story by far but believe me, you will love and feel the compassion for them as both characters meet their destiny together to love and overcome their problems it's AWESOME!! Once again Anna Lowe has done a SPECTACULAR JOB!! This will be a great choice for your TBR list. I'm always excited to read what Anna Lowe writes next. I Highly recommend this book and the series. I give Anna Lowe, my highest complement I would buy her books whenever they are release. I know every book isn't for everyone so If this isn't the kind of book or genre you like to read, skip this book. However, if you're a fan of all things naughty, sexual tension, action and humor, this will be perfect for you. Anna is a fantastic writer.
If you believe in the world of paranormal romance, the possibilities are endless and fascinating!
It isn't long before she realizes someone else was using it first...Simon, a bear shifter, had been in his den until he felt an overwhelming need to find something. Although it seems that should be someone, as his bear is very happy to see Jessica.
Simon and Jessica, feeling an unexplainable attraction, realize that they can speak in each other's minds. Wait, what? For shifters, that happens within packs/clans sometimes but also when you meet your mate, but a bear and a wolf mating. That's just not done. Yet, they can't fight it.
They know that they just can't announce their mating without laying some groundwork first, which could take a while, and they continue to meet in secret in the meantime.
But will things work out that way? Will Simon and Jessica get their HEA? Or will they be forced apart, living without their other half?
One-click now and see the beginning of Simon and Jessica's story in the prequel of Anna's new series. Their story will continue in book two, Damnation.

You do not need to read this first before Damnation, but it made book 1 all the better for me.
It was so sweet and wonderful and made me much sadder when I read their story in Damnation after reading this first. How it went wrong is a sobering story and is told in Damnation.
This is my honest review of this book.
