This was my first book by this author, and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of her work!
Through her writing, Montes did an incredible job at capturing the truth behind pain and the process of healing. I was touched by her story telling and her ability to provide details that most authors would have excluded.
It was one of those books that showed how love, patience, and understanding can change every thing.
I recommend this book to any person that wants to escape and to any one who wants to have a better understanding of mental illness and mental health.
Jenna is a young adult who is struggling. She has a long history of depression and recent diagnosis of Schizoeffective disorder. As if that's not enough, she is forced to deal with the death of her sister who was her best advocate and close friend, a mother who has no empathy and knows just how to trigger Jenna, and social paranoia that keeps her isolated and lonely. In walks Logan, a man who has had his share of heartbreak and struggles, who sees something in Jenna perhaps few others have seen. He has a heart of gold and incredible patience with her, both before and after he learns the truth.
This book does not romanticize mental illness. Life isn't perfect because you find love. It brings up the sad stigma associated with these conditions that the people who struggle with them face: difficulty with relationships, schooling, work, and self-love.
This is a standalone with no cliffhanger and the only kind of HEA one can expect which is hope! It's extremely emotional, so pack some tissues. I highly recommend it!
