So it turns out that wake/booting issue might not be related to the HDD/CPU. Seems that it is possibly the display connection to the 4k Samsung requiring me to unplug the HDMI connection and plugging back in to reset. Unsure if previous HDMI cable used was 2.0 but I have bought new HDMI 2.0 cable and problem still persists. I have not tried any of the Display Ports yet but will test out with connection to a 2k computer monitor to see if problem is still there. Hopefully, it's not the gtx 1070 card issue.
I still think the HDD is slow.
So far, one week in with this Asus gaming desktop.
GTX 1070 - I bought this unit only for 2k gaming which looks really amazing as is. I have thrown a few older games (Fallout 4, Mad Max) at it and the GTX 1070 did really well even at 4k. Ultra-high settings on 2k was great but at 1080 was buttery smooth. TV used was a Samsung UN55KS9000 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD.
Runs very quiet.
HDD - might be that I'm spoiled by used of SSD but the pre-installed HDD seems very slow. Cold boot is unusually long, even for a 7200 rpm drive. Will be cloning to SSD to see if its HDD issue or OS. I ran all of the necessary Windows updates.
Further issue, (possibly) with OS, is that it has failed to properly wake from sleep mode a couple of times (freeze in blank screen) and once from "hibernate" mode initiated from Steam client resulting in having to soft reset/power cycle the computer.
Nice RGB controls. You can personalize the RGB color but I don't use it so I leave it off.
Some momentary stuttering on games. Not sure if it's the Core i5 issue but it's rare so I won't bother with the CPU analysis tools just yet.
Have not fully delve into the Aegis controls/features. Will update review.
Bought it for $850 when it was on sale and don't regret it a bit. I was worried the CPU might bottleneck but I've yet to have that issue. The founders edition card comes slightly overclocked also for even better performance.
