Update 3/20/16: PNY did allow me to cut the card and has replaced it under warranty. It took a little more persistence than I wanted to use, but the company came through. Hopefully, the new memory will last longer. PNY has a solid reputation for making good memory products. I've got a 2014 card in a phone that's still going strong. An eight year-old 256Mb flash drive still works, though I don't use it much now due to its size.
The card failed after ten months. New data cannot be added to the card. Existing data cannot be deleted from the card. To PNY's credit, they are willing to replace the card under warranty. Unfortunately, PNY has no advice on how to delete the personal information on the card and will not allow return of a destroyed card under the warranty. The card cannot be formatted in Windows. The files cannot be deleted or overwritten. The only advice I've found on the net to safeguard the data is to cut the card in half. According to a Sandisk customer with a similar problem, that was the advice provided by Sandisk for cutting the card: "NAND memory of the card dysfunctions and there is no possible way anyone can retrieve the data." I don't understand why cutting the card is fine with Sandisk and not PNY.
Updated one year later :
The cards I bought in 2015 and 2016 are still going strong. However, the last 4 cards I have ordered in 2017 were either DOA, or they died within a week of use. I don't know the real reason, but I suspect that the suppliers are down to either counterfeits or they are re-shipping the returns without verifying them.
The card reads and writes very quickly. In fact, I've loaded several games (although they are older... like Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 or Unreal Tournament 2004) onto the card and it runs very well with no slowdown. One other thing I love about the card is the fact that it comes with a full size SDHC adapter, which makes it much easier to transfer files between this and my older computers that don't have micro SDHC slots.
Overall, highly recommended.
I'm extremely disappointed to have paid as much as I did, for memory that lasted as briefly as it did.
I used this in my Surface Pro 3, and after just two days of use (formatted NTFS - I put my Steam games on there) the drive became unreadable, with errors in the Event Log showing that since day 1, there have been corrupted read/writes. Eventually the corruption hit the MFT, and has rendered the card unusable.
Even worse, I was using this on my deployment, and am unable to ship it back until we leave, so I'm dead in the water on this one.
I used to not trust PNY back in "the day" with laptop memory and video cards, and I thought I'd give them a second chance after a decade. Turns out, it's still the same.
