Great information
I listened to this on audio first and loved it so much, I bought the paperback version. It’s got great information and insight. Helpful info for teens (not ALL chapters) & helpful info for women.I think anyone who wants to start taking supplements should always do their due diligence and find out what they lack or speak to their own doctor or naturopath before just jumping into a new regiment. In reference to another reviewer: To blame the author for your toxicity seems a bit uncalled for especially if you had no understanding of your deficiencies beforehand. That’s like taking a medication without questioning what its for. Vitamins are natural, but almost everything has to be taken in moderation.Aside from that, I highly recommend to parents of teens who have their periods. Its helpful and will cover a lot of questions that they may have. Give them the information so they can also form their own options on what they want for their bodies! Wish I had this info earlier in life!!

Written so that anyone can understand and provides language and information that will arm you with confidence in talking to your doctor about your particular issues and desired approaches. It goes without saying that somehow this book fills up gaps I hadn’t even realized I had in understanding my own body. It inspires me to research more, and I now have a better basic knowledge as a starting point. It may be cliche but empowering is the word for this book.

This is a great book. The only complaint that I have is that the author does not posses a strong foundation in Fertility Awareness Method (FAM). She mentions several times that you are ovulating if you have physical signs of ovulation but does not go into enough detail. The only way to know if you are ovulating besides exquisitely timed ultrasound, is to track your basal body temperature to see a thermal shift. OPKs (pee sticks) only predict when your body is trying to ovulate, not that it has or will. When and if a woman ovulates is vital information from a functional medicine standpoint. In women's health it is so important for women to understand and chart their cycles. Just recording the days of your period is inadequate when troubleshooting cycle problems. I highly recommend finding a fertility awareness educator to help you learn how to do this; You won't regret it! [...]
This author is an incredible resource for reproductive health and dare I say a "trailblazer" in the field! I love the way Dr. Briden makes it clear that you don't have periods when you are on the pill. Bleeds do not equal periods. Pills do not "regulate" periods, they hijack them and suppress ovulation. Bleeds are a result of withdrawing off the synthetic hormones. Most people (including doctors) do not understand this crucial point. She has great dietary advice as well. Her herbal knowledge is admirable.
Overall, the book is an excellent read for women looking to improve their periods and their health. I look forward to future editions with more information on Fertility Awareness Method because it is a vital component to cycle health; a woman's fifth vital sign.

Coming off of birth control has been an emotionally and at times physically distressing roller coaster. This book simplified everything and broke down you, your cycle, and the many things that can dream havoc on it. I learned so much and plan to take this information with me throughout the rest of my lifelong journey of getting to know my body.

I've been having issues with my period for the past year. In fact, for the last 9 months, I've not had a period on my own, and my doctor has been having me take Progesterone tablets every three months to induce a period. She, as well as a second gyno I went to see, have had no explanation for me as to why this is happening and have wanted to put me on birth control. This bothers me to no end. First of all, I don't want to be on birth control, but I guess that is kind of besides the point. The main point is that my body is not doing what it is naturally meant to be doing, and it bothers me that none of the doctors I sought out have tried to find the root of the problem. So, after 9 months of taking the progesterone pills every 3 months, (so 3 medically induced periods for 9 months) I decided I had had enough. I came across this book and read a lot of good reviews and decided to give it a whirl. This book is very clear and easy to understand. She gives you a lot of options where supplements and new lifestyle choices are concerned. She also made it very clear that it would take three months to get my period back, because that is how long it takes for the follicle to mature. One of the supplements she talks about is Inositol and another is Vitex. I bought both, but decided to start off my first three months with a half dosage of the combination Inositol (the regular dosage is 4:1 and I took 2:0.5) and then if I still didn't get a period, I would try the vitex since that is apparently some really powerful stuff, but I wanted to try a more low key supplement first. I also want to mention that I was, at the time, taking 50 mg of Spironolactone a day, which this books states can make you miss periods. I decided I also wanted to wean myself off of that. I took the Inositol everyday for three months at half the dosage. As for my Spironolactone, I took it everyday like usual for a month, then switched to taking 50 mg every other day, and spreading it farther and farther apart until I stopped taking it altogether. I was pretty sure that, based around the time I started doing all of this, I "should" get my period sometime around May 7th, and had even marked that on my calendar. This morning, May 4th, I got my period naturally for the first time in almost a year. I haven't seen any negative side effects from the Inositol or stopping the Spironolactone, which I expected to make me break out, but I've been off of it for a month now and havent noticed anything. I am thoroughly impressed with this book and the approach behind it. She really focuses on fixing the root issue instead of sweeping it under the rug and going straight to birth control like the two doctors I went to. From this point forward, I think I will continue to take the Inositol for a few months, and then maybe down the line see if my body has been off the spironolactone long enough to have a period without Inositol, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see. If you've been struggling with period issues and don't know where to turn, this book is the answer. I would highly recommend this to all women.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent must-have information
Reviewed in Canada on April 29, 2024
This book covers nearly every issue one might have with their period at any age, and more importantly lists research-backed remedies and resources to fix those issues. It's an easy read and not too lengthy, and is written from a holistic approach as the author writes about the other issues which might be related to or be a cause/effect of period issues, such as blood sugar levels, mood, gut health, and so on.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST book on perimenopause by far for so many reason & esp. well discussed section on mood issues
Reviewed in Germany on August 17, 2023
Have read 4 other books on perimenopause and menopause and this one is by far the best, especially when it comes to mood issues, as it is very thorough. For each symptom section, like sleep, hot flashes, migraines, mood it goes into what medications might help and what supplements could be beneficial too. It has literally become my Menopause bible and I have looked up issues for friends several times too who have found great relief using some of her treatment ideas. Also, Dr Briden writes very caringly and explains things in details without making it complicated. There are even section under each symptom of what to ask and say to your doctor if they are not in the know, which you might know by now they often don't. I literally used it to back myself up in telling my doctor which treatment I needed/wanted despite her objections, and voila I feel back to my old self again.

This book was fascinating. I loved the way it explained the whole menstrual cycle and how it works. It also talks about what happens when there is any irregularities and causes them and how to fix them without going on the birth control. For those who have been on the pill it talks about how to reset your hormones once you get off it. I wish I read this when I was 20 years old.
