Great Keyboard - Pairs Excellently with Nexus 7 Tablet

This keyboard does an incredible job when paired with my Google Nexus 7 tablet over bluetooth. I was worried about the connection, since I've read numerous reports about other bluetooth keyboards losing connection intermittently, but have never experienced anything like that during the two months I've been using this keyboard. I use this for taking notes in university classes, where there is often a lot of digital interference from other devices in the room, but it's always worked perfectly. I also put it through the paces, and have not had any problems or glitches so far.

The touch sensitivity of the keyboard is excellent, and it types like a normal keyboard. The size of this keyboard can play tricks with your mind; the keyboard looks and feels small in your hands, but the keys are similar in size to an Apple keyboard. Typing on this is easy (much easier than on those tiny netbook keyboards.) I haven't messed around with the Android function buttons, so I'm not sure how well they work.

The rechargeable battery is handy, and lasts me a long time. You just have to remember to turn it off on the back of the keyboard after use. If you make sure to do that, you shouldn't have to recharge it very often.

The build quality of this keyboard is excellent (as expected from a German product like Perixx,) and I expect it to last me a few years through college. Even though the price was low, the quality and performance are exceptionally high, and I would definitely recommend this keyboard.

Critically Flawed

This board was $20USD when I purchased it a few days ago, so I wasn't expecting a coup in engineering, but this board had a critical flaw...

I do a ton of typing in my work, and am often updating existing text. I frequently select individual letters, words, and lines using combinations of the cursor keys, the SHIFT key (which selects the text you're navigating via cursor keys), and the CTRL, HOME, END, and PAGE UP & PAGE DOWN keys. This way, I can precisely select text for replacement without using the mouse (which can slow you down a huge amount over a task or workday).

For some reason, this keyboard only reliable selects texts when moving "backward" through text. If I try to select more than one letter or word consecutively forward through text, it either stops selecting the text (only moves the insertion point) or selects only one character at a time even when using the standard modifier keys for words and lines. This issue slows me down and introduces inaccuracies in my work if I've missed the issue while multitasking. The slowdown is irritating, but possibility of errors being introduced into exhaustive requirements documents is absolutely unacceptable.

I'd take the time to contact the supplier for a replacement, but 1) I suspect this is a firmware issue that would take a lot of up-the-chain pushing to resolve, 2) the keyboard isn't exceptional in a way to make it worth that effort (e.g., feels cheap, had poor key feel), and 3) I ordered another Bluetooth keyboard I've been very pleased with at the same time I acquired this one. I'm sending this one back as defective, and keep using my [[ASIN:B01LN9P21I 1byone Folding Bluetooth Keyboard].

I gave this two stars instead of one star because I know I use keyboard navigation far more than average users, so this might not at all be a problem for most others.

work great with Android once you figure out pairing

(I am using Android 2.3.4 - Motorola Droid Bionic.)

Keyboard seems to be excellent quality for the money. The instructions for pairing, though, are inadequate.

1. Turn on the keyboard.
2. Android: settings / wireless & networks / touch bluetooth on / bluetooth settings / on / scan for devices
3. Press little soft button on bottom of keyboard (next to the on/off switch.
4. Android: you should see an icon for the discovered keyboard. Touch it.
5. A window pops up asking you for a 4 digit pin, suggesting 0000 or 1234.
6. First *on the Android device* type that number in using the screen keyboard and press OK.
7. Now type that same number in (I used 1234) *on the physical keyboard* and hit Enter.

That should do it. I wasted a solid hour this morning fooling around with pairing.

But once it is paired, it should stay paired.

Keys are a decent size - not full sized, but not a Mickey Mouse size either, like a netbook. I have big hands and am picky about keyboards, and I think I could type a lot fast on this keyboard.

Now if only there were a way to enable a Dvorak layout in Android - what the heck, Google? How hard can this be? In linux or windows this takes 10 seconds to change.

Perixx: I'll gladly shell out another $35 for a Dvorak version. Keep up the good work.
