Key print - The letters on my keys have not faded at all. After 9+ months of heavy use. That alone is an achievement.
Hardware issues - None. The LEDs are all still functional (admittedly, the illumination has slipped in a couple places on the keyboard, but I've seriously kept this thing lit up day and night for the majority of it's lifespan). I'd say this keyboard has been plugged in 24/7 at full "brightness" for about 6 of the 9 months that I've used it, and the lights are still working at about 90-95% of their original capacity. This is impressive.
Key issues - Zero dead keys. Zero maintenance issues. The weakest key on this keyboard is without a doubt the space bar. Honestly, I thought for sure it would malfunction by now. It hasn't. It's flimsy, but hell if I'm not beating on it with my thumbs incessantly and like a good frat pledge in the 70's, it just says, "Thank you sir, may I have another?"
Ghosting - This is where I almost dock the keyboard a star. I do NOT believe that this is an effective gaming keyboard, although I play tons of games on it and it's a non-issue with many games, but the "complex" button-pushing games will no doubt create key ghosting issues. Sometimes it feels like it happens at 3 keys simultaneously pressed, sometimes 4, but all too often do I strike a key combination in a video game and then it doesn't work and I have to lift my fingers up and try it again. It's kind of annoying, but this is a $55 keyboard performing at an $80 keyboard level. How upset can you really be?
That said, given the price, performance, durability, and aesthetic of this keyboard, I'm still giving it 5-stars. It's still a "gaming keyboard", it's just not a great gaming keyboard due to the ghosting. At it's pricepoint? It's an outstanding value and as I come up on a year, I have a keyboard with no missing letters, no failed keys, no hardware issues, and no real failed LED backlighting. For those of us that want a solid multi-purpose input device that delivers some quality, but not at the $120 Programmable WoW Keyboard" level (nothing wrong with spending $120 on a keyboard, I've done it before) but don't feel like paying that much, there is this.
As is to be expected, the rubberized coating will collect some dust given the proper amount of time spent unused. As is with any other keyboard, dust will gather on low traffic keys. This board seems to collect at a slightly faster rate. This mostly occurs on the outer edges of the board for me but it's nothing a quick monthly wipe down won't fix. Another thing to mention is the light. While I was pleased with the quality and colors I do wish the blue was a little brighter. You may not have the same experience. This might be because my monitor is ridiculously bright. Also, the light is dimmer closer to the right end of the board. Minor dislike and it isn't really causing me any problems as the whole keyboard is still very visible in the dark. It's not so bad that it'll throw you off if you're a little OCD. Unless of course you're VERY OCD. Finally, I wish the side lights were a little bright or perhaps a little more well accented. I really just want them to stand out more. To be honest I didn't know they were there till someone across from my desk mentioned it.
It was pretty hard to pick at these cons as I am VERY pleased with the overall quality of this board.
+4 Stars for quality, usability, and concept/design.
-1 Star for: Minor nitpicking...
+1 Star for being a High Quality Underdog brand.
The only cons are that I wish it had a volume knob, instead of buttons, but it's not a big deal. And since purchase, 2 of the keys which I constantly use during gaming have snapped off but Perixx has sent me replacements both times without any issues.
The closest mechanical keyboard switch I can compare this to is the red switches as the px-1100 keystrokes are silent and there is no 'click' when pressed, which is what I like for gaming. The mechanical keyboards I tried which were more than twice as expensive as this, felt too clickly for comfortable prolonged gaming, but were better for typing.
Highly recommend this and if it ever breaks down on me, will definitely buy another.
PERIXX please bring out a new version of this model with a volume knob. It would make this the perfect membrane keyboard.
