Perkin Warbeck, pretender to the English throne, claimed to be Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York & Norfolk, the younger of the two sons of Edward IV imprisoned in the Tower of London by Richard III, and whose true fate is unknown to this day. He led two attempts to claim the crown, but was captured by Henry VII and hanged at Tyburn. This book looks at who Warbeck really was, how he was used by those in power in Burgundy, France, Italy, Scotland and Ireland, and the progress of the conspiracy itself. It has often been considered to be a side issue to Henry's reign, but this book reveals how close the conspirators came to bringing about a fundamental change in European politics. Poor Old Henry

Well, Henry Tudor WOULD invade and manage to win at Bosworth, so he had to reap the consequences. Being king was not a doddle for him, and he became suspicious and neurotic to the point that it quite curdled him. He always feared 'pretenders' who would come to do to him what he'd done to Richard III. Perkin Warbeck was one such, and his story is intriguing. Was he or wasn't he the younger of the Princes in the Tower? The consensus is not, but there is always an element of doubt. We will never know now, but reading about it is engrossing. One will always make up one's own mind in the end. This is a good read. Recommended.

This book was long and repeated itself.
The subject matter was accurate and well researched but it was not a particularly easy read.
I can't quite put my finger on the reason but I found it heavy going
