Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What criteria should I use when selecting a hummingbird feeder?
A. Make sure it is one that will be easy to clean and fill, especially since you will need to clean the feeder every few days. If you are worried about bees and wasps or ants invading the feeder, purchase a hummingbird feeder with bee guards.
Q. How do I clean my hummingbird feeders?
A. Hummingbird feeders need to be cleaned every 1-2 weeks. Use hot water and a bottle brush, along with mild soap; be sure to rinse thoroughly.
The Perky-Pet cleaning mop is specifically designed for the purpose of cleaning hummingbird feeders, and is very convenient to use. This cleaning mop can also be used on seed feeders and oriole feeders for those small, tight spaces that are difficult to reach.
Q. What is the importance of providing water for hummingbirds?
A. Hummingbirds need fresh, clean water just as much as they need nectar. Hummingbirds stay healthy by using water not just for drinking, but also bathing, cleaning their feathers and to remove parasites. Waterers are better options than bird baths because they provide hummingbirds with fresh, clean water that prevents dirt and debris from contaminating it. In hotter climates or seasons, providing water for hummingbirds makes it easy for them to have access to a water source and retain their energy.

I hung this feeder next to my Perky-Pet Green Antique Bottle Hummingbird Feeder. I filled them both with my hummingbird mix (1 part white sugar: 4 parts filtered water). My hummingbirds give it two wings up.
And then I waited to see if they drained the red feeder faster than the green one.
Interestingly, the nectar levels dropped at identical levels.
Then the hummingbirds told their friends about the cool place with a red feeder AND a green feeder, both quite lovely in design.
The other hummers were apparently impressed, because they told their friends, who told their friends, who told their friends.
Now I just need to know where I can get a 50 pound sack of sugar.
I'm attaching a video I took of one of the happy customers. :)
I am very happy with this purchase and am considering ordering another one!
One note to be aware - the feeder I have for two years has started to lose the red paint coating, but the hummers don't care and I'm fine with it. So far the same exact one recently purchased from Amazon has not shown any signs of the red paint coming off.
An update (6/2017). I am now in the second year of using it. It works well and the hummingbirds keep coming. But I'm noticing rust around the feeding openings. Too bad they used cheap materials and methods. It's not like they didn't know the openings would be subjected to constant wet conditions.
*I had to come back to add that the feeder I'd given to my daughter cannot be hung safely any longer. She had placed hers on her balcony and a male hummer immediately began perching on top of it, chasing the other hummingbirds away and claiming it for himself. Eventually, though, the edges on the top chipped away so that it can't safely be hung by the metal hanger any longer. We're not sure if this happened because of the bird chirping there or because of wind or acid rain or something else, but it's no longer safe to hang.
