Published in '99, this book feels totally irrelevant now. Completely outdated in just a few years. Interesting historical artifact, but you're better spending money on a business magazine.

Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers into Friends and Friends into Customers While the book is showing it's age, it's also still vitally needed by marketers of all levels.

One of my friends has an electric car. The place he bought it for, the place that has his contact information, the place that KNOWS he bought an electric car, sent him a coupon for an oil change. Think about it. In an era where big data is a thing, where Target is capable of knowing your daughter or wife is pregnant before you do, we have a car company sending someone a coupon for a service that they cannot use on a vehicle that was sold to them by the same people sending the coupon.

Permission Marketing has a long way to go and for companies to be successful, has to be embraced at all levels.

The advice in Godin's book continues to be pertinent and actual. Worth reading as a beginner's guide to modern day marketing.

Seth Godin is right about this. It feels a bit aged, but the crafty reader will develop from it.

Its an older book. Late 1990's so not everything is relevant to today.

Antiquated and outdated. I read it because I thought it might offer something new, but it's not for anyone who is already running a newsletter aka permission marketing. If you are using Mailchimp (or Aweber or Constant Contact etc...) already...skip this. You need something more current.

While some of the references to cultural events and companies may be outdated, the principles in this book are as solid today as they were when they were penned.
