Review

A compilation of rare recordings and early radio broadcasts from the crooner with the warm baritone voice, Perry Como!

Features some of Como s best loved work including Goodbye Sue, I m Always Chasing Rainbows, Prisoner Of Love, Girl Of My Dreams and many more romantic favorites!

One of the best loved vocalists of all time, Perry Como has sold in excess of one hundred million records!

With extensive liner notes, digitally remastered tracks and stunningly beautiful artwork, this compilation is sure to please any jazz fan!

Born the seventh son of a seventh son, Pierino Ronald Como was born May 18, 1912 to a Italian immigrant couple. As a child he developed an interest in music, becoming adept at both the organ and baritone horn. But it was Como s singing that caught the attention of band leaders Freddy Carlone and later the legendary Paul Whiteman. By 1944, Como had become a household name with countless recordings for the premiere Decca label and his very own radio show. His first television appearance on Christmas Eve of 1948 was so popular that Como became a perennial symbol of the Christmas season for years to come. Now, these ultra rare V-disc recordings - made during WWII - have been digitally remastered and packaged in a special collector s edition are available for the first time on one CD, bringing the voice that soothed a thousand souls back to life.

Originally the brainchild of Army Captain Bob Vincent as a means to boost morale of American troops during World War II, the story of the V-Disc program is a fascinating one. On a monthly basis, upwards of a quarter of a million vinyl records were shipped directly to our servicemen where they played in mess halls, barracks and even right on the front lines. For the musicians, who were in the midst of the musician s union strike, the program provided them a welcome opportunity to record again, which they gladly did free of charge. --Cleopatra Records
