- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2014Style: PlayStation 3Verified PurchaseI am going to admit right now, that I am not at all good at fighting games. Nevertheless, I bought this game knowing full well I was going to be spamming moves or just button mashing to progress the story. To my utter surprise however, I found myself caring about the moves I was making. I tried to learn them, pulling up the move list for each character so I could see just how amazing they really are.
Anyway, this review is more than just the fighting system, it's also about the combination of the cast of Persona 3 and 4, which is just a fan's wet dream really. Being a direct continuation of Persona 4 Arena, P4AU wastes no time in delving into the nitty gritty of the story. The Persona 3 group, the Shadow Operatives, have been kidnapped and displayed on the Midnight Channel, and red fog envelops Inaba, leaving the Investigation team baffled as to what's going on. Joined by the remaining SEES operatives, the group attempts to rescue Mitsuru and the gang, all while trying to solve the mystery of the red fog and a boy named Sho Minazuki.
Really, I was just glad to even see my favorite characters interacting with one another, but to actually control them like I imagined a fight between Persona users would play out was just icing on the cake. Everyone is here, and they all have their own quirks just like in the games. Everything stays true to them, to Yukari's fighting style of fighting in the distance, to Kanji fighting with pure strength in front of an opponent. Even the characters that don't normally fight, like Rise (my favorite) get some upgrades, and as I said before, I found myself caring about the characters move lists and attempted to learn them (I failed spectacularly).
Besides the standard story mode, it also let's you play online vs. others around the world, level up a character in Golden Arena, and also see the story from different perspectives. For me, this game will never be sold, and the included Tarot cards made this game truly worthwhile. I implore you to pick it up if you're a die hard persona fan, and it also takes several nods to what I believe might be Persona 5 and an ex leader of SEES.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2015Style: PlayStation 3Verified Purchaseokay, so let me start this review off by saying, this game is great! i also played the first Persona 4 Arena and it was also good! i will admit straight off, i'm not the best at fighting games, i'm just average at best, that's why i appreciated that the game features "Stylish Mode" when you play with that turned on, it allows you to do amazing combos with the tap of a button, this is great for people who aren't very good at fighting games and just want to jump in and have fun! so the barrier of entry is low! but don't let Stylish mode fool you! this game is insanely deep! and if you put in the practice you could become really good at this game and discard stylish mode, stylish mode is also good if you just want to experience the story mode without having to deal with a huge challenge.
the story mode in both Persona 4 Arena games is fantastic! if you have played Persona 4 Golden, then you will truly appreciate the story mode, if you haven't played the first Persona Arena game, then i recommend you get the Story DLC in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, it will allow you to play the entire single player story from the first game within Ultimax! its 10 dollars, and if you don't want to purchase the original game, then its worth it! anyways i can highly recommend this game to anyone that wants to get into fighting games, but is scared of not being able to enjoy one because of complex controls, trust me, you will have a blast with this game, this game will satisfy beginners and pros!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2014Style: PlayStation 3Verified PurchaseThe game is fantastic, as to be expected.
Just wanted to tell the people that want to know if it still comes with the Pre-Order bonuses, that yes it does. (As of 12/21/14)
The game improves upon Arena in so many ways that it hurts to go back and play it. My only problem with the roster is that they skipped over an obvious choice in Metis from Persona 3 FES and they put in Marie from Persona 4 Golden, both add ons to the respective vanilla games. Honestly i couldn't even tell you how long i've just sat in the options listening to the music while i was on the computer. The story mode actually feels different rather than the"Arena" everyone literally has the same thing happen to them in each story.
+The fight Is real
+Story is great
+Music is fantastic
+ Game looks beautiful
-Lack of obvious character choices (Metis, Strega, Theodore, The Fox...lol)
-(Not really a negative) The game came out at a bad time and came out for "Last Gen" only, so the online was dead fast.
5 Out Of 5 Stars
Overall im glad i did pick this up since my obsession with Persona started November of last year with Persona 3 FES. This was a good way to celebrate 1 year with the series. Between this, Persona Q, and the upcoming super anticipated Persona 5, it couldn't be a better time to be a Persona fan.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2014Style: PlayStation 3Verified PurchaseThis was definitely better than the last game. The story made more sense because it did not go by different characters experiencing the same thing. It felt like real progress. The final boss was cool because too and had great gameplay. The battle system has improved too and some of the characters have better mechanics than the last game. The lobby is definitely one of the best features of this game. It gives a more real experience as you can walk around as one of the characters. Online also lets you have the same stats with every character you use instead of using just one characters and having the stats from playing as them. This makes it more friendly and open for what kind of characters you decide to main as. It was a fun game overall and I was glad to get my teddie bop bag and tarot cards as a pre-order bonus. It was definitely worth $60 compared to the last game as it has way better story and content. I highly recommend buying this game if you are a persona fan or just like fighting games in general.

Style: PlayStation 3Verified PurchaseIt was nice to still get the Teddie inflatable and tarot cards included, overall this is a very fun game, that is actually very accessible for new players. It can get quite hectic but it's fairly simple as far as a fighting game goes, which makes it lots of fun to play with friends.

Style: PlayStation 3Verified PurchaseSo this was recommended to me by Jason Oestreicher of giantbomb.com, as a good entry point to the fighting game genre for me and my daughter. It's super-fun to play; has a good balance of challenging combo inputs with more simple ones; a great stable of characters and some good training modes. My daughter (13) loves it. I'll be getting some training in this weekend! Definitely recommend.
