Personhood: A Pragmatic Guide to Prolife Victory in the 21st Century and the Return to First Principles in Politics Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 13 ratings

History will one day look upon the movement to affirm the personhood of unborn children in the same way we now look upon the abolition of slavery and the end of the Holocaust. Dan Becker has been a reliable and principled voice for the unborn. His book advancing personhood for the most vulnerable among us is like a sound of the trumpet that will reverberate throughout time. The Holocaust of the unborn is the darkest chapter in American history and Dan Becker’s book is a call to turn the page and restore a culture of life. It is a must read.

Review

"This book is a must read for anyone serious about ending abortion and restoring dignity to the human race."

From the Publisher

Daniel Becker, President of Georgia Right to Life has challenged the prolife movement to re-think its educational, legislative and political strategy and adapt it to meet 21st century needs. Using the last decade of prolife victories in Georgia as a case study, Becker proceeds to chart a course for national prolife victory . . . state by state.

This book attempts to define and answer many of the questions being asked by prolife activists and supporters today concerning Personhood: What is it? Why is it necessary? Can the strategy win? Is the timing right? How can I start a movement in my state? The answers will challenge you to embrace a deeper faith in God's power as He works through us in prudential and pragmatic ways to effect change.

"Personhood - A Pragmatic Guide to Prolife Victory in the 21st Century and the Return to First Principles in Politics" is a double-whammy for the pro-life activist - an honest and truthful look at why moral compromise is not an option and the practical real-life history of how this approach can succeed.
Becker discusses the history of pro-life activism and why the "lesser of two evils" strategy in American politics has resulted in a practical failure of the goal of making abortion illegal as it was for the majority of American history. So is there a possibility of victory after 40 years of legalized abortion? The legal definition of `personhood' is the answer, as Becker defines as the `biblical' definition of personhood - that all human life is sacred, in that all human life bears the image of God, the Creator.
A veteran of Georgia state politics, Becker traces the history of the pro-life movement in the state, including his own run for office and his controversial campaign strategy, as well as the re-dedication of the movement to a no compromise stance for all incumbents and candidates and the subsequent legal successes in the state to date since pursuing the establishment of biblical `Personhood.'
This is a practical and inspiring must-read for all those who work for the protection of the lives of the unborn in America.

The reason I call Daniel Becker's directives fail proof is because he calls on us to have a simple faith in the faithfulness of God and His word. As president of Georgia Right to Life he has paved the way to pro life victory after pro life victory by an uncompromising stand upon Scripture and Him who inspired it.
Daniel Becker to me is one the people Leonard Ravenhill spoke of when addressing ministers stated: "One of these days some simple soul is going to pick up God's word and read it and believe it and then we are ALL going to be embarrassed! We have adopted the convenient theory that the Bible is to be explained, whereas first and foremost it is to be believed and then obeyed!"
Read "Personhood" It cleared up my misconceptions about this stratagy. In fact I bought 45 copies to give out.

This book cuts to the heart of the abortion debate...the Unborn is a Person and deserving of Legal Protection. Especially engaging is the history of Christians defending the defenseless, and the fallacies of the Age of Enlightenment. Let every person who considers themselves to be "Pro-Life" consider the Personhood of the Unborn, and stop wasting valuable resources on incremental legislation that has only served to entrench the abortion agenda when the judicial abuse of power in Roe V. Wade is seen for what is is and overturned. Thanks for the thought provoking book.

Dan Becker’s “Personhood” is a page turner and a wonderful account of the internal battles waged in the pro-life movement during the dark ages of Roe v Wade.
Becker’s thesis is a defense of principled pro-life activism and humanity’s intrinsic value derived from the Imago Dei.
If you wish to better understand the heart of the pro-life movement, you will love this book.

This book is excellent! The science confirms that infants in utero do feel pleasure and pain, make responses, hear sounds, and experience emotions. All these activities demonstrate that these individuals are persons and should be protected. Excellent source of information.
