Lift tables and personnel lifts are devices that use a mechanism, often scissor lifts, to raise or lower goods or persons. They can be hydraulic, pneumatic, electric, manual, spring-powered, or battery-powered.
A lifting table or elevating cart is used to raise and lower large loads. A common type is the scissor lift table. Other types utilize hydraulic or manual posts, screw drives, and push chains. Common applications include pallet handling, vehicle loading, and work positioning.
Many lift tables are stationary, while scissor lift carts and smaller lifting tables have wheels or casters for mobility. Some lift tables have conveyor rollers or rotating tops, and some are used as portable workstations. A dock lift is an adjustable platform used in a loading bay to connect the dock and truck. Dock lifts are usually hydraulic or pneumatic powered.
A personnel lift works in the same manner as a lift table, but with a caged platform and handrails for safety. Personnel lifts provide temporary access for people to high, otherwise inaccessible areas for maintenance or other applications. They are often scissor lifts or boom lifts, although some work platforms mount to the forks of a forklift. A boom lift can be telescoping or articulating.
