Perspectives: Poems Paperback – October 3, 2013
★★★★ Reviewed by Rich Follett for Readers' Favorite: The world of Richard Pacheco's Perspectives is dark and compelling, much like a thriller movie where we squint to dim our vision rather than expose ourselves to the full impact of the scenes we know will come. The 20 poems in this collection are lean, unflinching, and unforgettable. Poets have long been fascinated by the 'dark side' of life and the human psyche. Pacheco's mastery lies in knowing just where and how to let in a ray of light for maximum effect.
"Psychologically very powerful. The word selection is great. Vitriolic and poignant." George Hayden Jr. Pulitzer Prize nominee in poetry
From the Author
I have always been fascinated by poetry and wrote from high school. A great burst of poetic creativity came in college where my then girlfriend was an English major and I got exposed to all kinds of writing I would have never otherwise encountered. Later as a journalist, I had the pleasure to meet several prominent poets and in some cases like Alan Dugan. Poets like Daisy Aldan and George W. Hayden Jr. became friends and they mentored me in poetry writing. I have been most fortunate and truly appreciate their kindnesses to me over the years. I have learned so much from them and do my damnedest to apply in my work.
