This book was hard to get into, but once I did I couldn't put it down! This is my first book by Tammy Mannersly. I look forward to reading more of her stories. Lucy and Cal had a rare second chance at love. Lucy was best friends with him from middle school until she left for college. She was in love with him, but he was busy dating every one of her friends except for her other best friend Madison. She cut all ties to everyone, including Cal with the exception of Madison. Madison knows why she refused to talk to Cal although she didn't quite understand all her reasons. Lucy kept some reasons private. Over the next fourteen years, Madison and Lucy were as close as ever. She was still trying to talk Lucy into talking to Cal and explaining her reasons. Lucy was very adamant about staying under the radar and having no contact with him.
Cal continues to ask about Lucy. Madison tells him how she is doing, but refuses to reveal her workplace, home address, and phone number. Although Madison continually offers his to Lucy, as he refuses to help him come in contact with her. He keeps telling him that it is Lucy's story to tell him. Everyday for the past fourteen years, he has thought about Lucy. He is still in love with her, but has never been able to show or tell her how he feels. After inheriting his father's company, he tries to save his first property and unknowingly hires Lucy's marketing firm to help him in this endeavor.
Completely shell shocked after seeing Cal for the first time in years, Lucy flees. Cal's vision for this encounter didn't match up to what actually happened. He wants to tell her that she owns his heart, but he is afraid to chase her off again. He doesn't know why she ran in the first place. His first goal is to get his best friend back, find out her reasoning for leaving, and then he will confess.
This is a must read! This second chance love novel has all the feel good feelings a good romance story should have.
Persuading Lucy by Tammy Mannersly is a great second chance romance. It is my second book from Ms. Mannersly. This is a great story full of wonderful tension, some angst, a heap of drama, some fantastic characters, as well as some tender and heart-warming moments that had me fully investing in the characters and their story. I was quickly engrossed in this book, reading it in one sitting.
Lucy Spencer is a very successful marketing executive who is living and working in Melbourne, Australia. Her job is her life, she is far too busy to date or invest in a relationship. Plus, she still carries quite a bit of baggage from having had her heart broken fourteen years ago. She is determined never to be placed in such a vulnerable position ever again. She just wants to get on with her life, leave her past behind- so throwing herself into her work seems to be her best course of action. It’s not as bad as it seems, because Lucy really does love her job, she’s passionate about marketing and enjoys the challenges that come with it.
Having spent the past fourteen years avoiding her ‘past’- imagine her shock to walk into her workplace one morning ready to meet with an important new client, only to find that ‘he’ is the new client that she’s supposed to work with. That didn’t go over very well, and Lucy is put in a situation where she either gives up the ten years she’s invested in her career, and walk away- or, dig deep and find a way to work with him.
Callum Hawthorne is a property tycoon, wealthy businessman and CEO of his family’s real-estate company. He’s also had such a long string of females through his bedroom door, that he should have probably installed a revolving door. But no matter how many ‘flings’ he has, none every compare to ‘the-one-who-got-away. Lucy was the light of his life, his Angel- who left for university and then completely cut all ties with him. He’s been looking for her for fourteen long years, determined to someday reconnect with her.
When he needs help to resuscitate a failing property that holds a lot of sentimental value for him, his team recommend ‘Insight Marketing” for being the best in their field. The last thing he expects is to finally find Lucy after all these years. He is excited, but she doesn’t react well at all. Callum soon realises that he’s going to have to find a way to get her to trust him again, to let him back into her life. Because now that he’s found her again, there was no way he was letting her go without a fight. He has always known what he wanted and now he’s going to go after it with everything he has.
This story is my favourite of the two I have read so far. It is a smooth read, with a great flow. It is told from a duel POV, which gives us a great balanced perspective of the unfolding story. I was engrossed the whole way through, and I am looking forward to my next book from Ms. Mannersly.
Thank you, Ms. Mannersly!
Lucy Spencer is a woman with strong morals. She is fiercely independent, incredibly determined and all-around ambitious young woman. So while I love these qualities in female characters, it meant she had some serious baggage! Not willing to let go of the past, her long harboured grievances with Callum has taken a serious toll on both of their lives. There were times I wanted to shake Lucy and tell her to pull herself together and move on. Yes, she did make me a little frustrated. But this is what Persuading Lucy such an entertaining read; no one wants something too predictable!
Their first meeting after over a decade apart was brilliantly dramatic. Callum’s reaction to nearly losing her again was what every girl dreams of; he literally ran after her! The chemistry between the two is immediately obvious and this had me super excited for what was to come. Little did I know, there is some serious angst and back-and-forth behaviour before any of my hopes start to look possible!
Persuading Lucy is a thoroughly entertaining read that I cannot recommend enough. I’m looking forward to reading more of this author’s work and love them just as much!
