The second worst thing that can happen to your pet is for him to get sick or hurt; the truly worst thing is for you as the pet owner to be totally unprepared when accident or misfortune strikes. This book covers all the basics of first aid care for dogs and cats, from cuts and bee stings to convulsions, choking, and traumatic, life-threatening injuries. Steps to take in any given situation are laid out one at a time, and a number of very helpful illustrations make all of the information as direct and understandable as it can be. The book is arranged alphabetically by first aid topic, so you can always find the information you need quickly and easily. You really don't even have to read the book. Just having it close at hand when something happens to your pet can make a real difference; it can even help save your loyal companion's life. I would recommend reading the book, though, or at least glancing through it. You can learn important warning signs to watch for in your pet's behavior and help catch a problem in its early stages. In cases of real emergency, knowing what not to do can be just as important as knowing what you should do. You would do well to follow the precautionary suggestions the book describes--putting together a pet first aid kit, for example. By no means can or should this book take the place of professional veterinary care, a point which the text emphasizes, but it can help keep your pet healthy and happy.

This is the perfect book to keep in my first aid kit. I searched around and read reviews and I'm glad I went with this book. It's informative and easy to find exactly what your looking for. I went a step further and added little tabs on parts that I thought I may need access to quickly in an emergency situation, like how to care for cuts, CPR on your animal, etc. There is a great list for a pet first aid kit that is very helpful. Also, some first aid books, for pets or humans, is almost too comprehensive, listing every single possible thing, making the books bulky and just repetitive, but this is not weighed down with bulk information. I love it, and am thinking about buying a second copy to keep in the car!

I already have one first aid for pets, but always like to have more than one type of book on hand, just in case. This book fits the bill nicely. The illustrations aren't that great: they're simple pencil sketches, but they do do the job necessary. The other book I have is much better, but I'll keep this one on hand, too.

This book is a must for every pet owner. I've learned so much about my dog and cat, not only how to properly care for them in case of injury or emergency, but also information about their general health and wellness. For instance, sometimes my dog seems to have trouble breathing, almost like an asthma attack. But according to this book, it's actually a backwards sneeze, which is very common for dogs and is not anything to worry about! The book is divided into sections that make sense and features an index so the information you need is very easy to find. Also, there are many helpful illustrations. If you care about your dog or cat, get this book today!

Just what the in-home vet of the house called for. In any situation like giving puppies a new on life this book is highly recommended. We love this book for all the great health care it provides and the money it saves. if you dont really need to go to the vet... dont. !Please dont use this book as a sure thing on the life of your animals!

I got this book because I took the class at the American Red Cross and lost my copy but there is a better book that is wonderfully more detailed: The First Aid Companion for Cats & Dogs. The ARC book doesn't cover a lot of things but does cover quite a few. I did use it though for several years until I could find a better book. The instructions are easily understood and it is useful to have around. The ARC has a second edition book but it is terrible and this book is MUCH better! They should have stuck with their first book. We run a small dalmatian rescue and this book has come in handy quite a few times. We have bought several dog first aid books and this one is my second favorite.

If you own even just one animal this is a must have book to keep on hand. If you live in a rural area, away from your vet, ORDER this. I keep mine in hands reach in case of an emergency. It is easily understandable even for someone with no prior knowledge. (I worked several years as a Vet assistant). Great gift for someone as a housewarming gift, wedding present, or just because if they are animal lovers.

I have a diabetic cat with irritable bowel disease including food sensitivities. I took a 6 month course in vet assisting and wanted a refresher in CPR and thought this book was great. Every pet owner should have this book! And the American Red Cross does run CPR/First Aid classes for pets as well. I am saving up the $90 for the 5 hour class. Highly recommended this book.

Three cats on a limited budget that are loved, however I find pet insurance with its excess cost for each visit out of my reach. This is a helpful book that nips health problems in the bud before they become big problems and inform with sensible advice (that probably our grandparents knew) when a cat can be treated at home and when a Vet is required. If Vets were more affordable I would not need this book but just to see an animal costs around £30.
