From the manufacturer
Help maintain and protect your pet's joint health with Easy Step Pet Stairs.
The innovative incline of each step reduces the amount of stairs needed to climb eliminating stress on your pet.
Pets that constantly jump off sofas, beds, and other furniture can place unnecessary strain on the joints which could potentially lead to arthritis. As with any steps some dogs may need training.
Why use a pet stair or ramp?
Pet stairs and ramps help your pet safely get to hard to reach places - and back down from them. Pet Gear pet stairs feature wide, deep steps that give smaller dogs the ability to get their entire body on each platform and offer more stability for large dogs to comfortably climb the stairs. The innovative incline of each step reduces the number of stairs your pet needs to climb, eliminating stress on your pet.
Can the stairs be cleaned?
All of Pet Gear's stairs come with either a removable carpet tread or cover that removes quickly and is machine washable.
How difficult to assemble?
All of Pet Gear's stairs snap together easily- no tools required.

I read in a review that liquid soap really helped putting it together. Once we grabbed that, and put them at the end of the connection setup was a breeze. We ignored the instructions because they were confusing. It's somewhat self explanatory.
However, our dog was reluctant to climb the stairs at first. Bichons are notorious for getting into a habit and not changing, so we began training him to use the stairs as follows: we put him on the next to top stair, so that it was an easy jump up and into bed. After he had gotten used to that for 2-3 days, we put him on the step below that and gave lots of encouragement. Once he'd gotten used to climbing into bed from there, we put him on the bottom step and then on the floor, repeating the same routine as we went down. After each successful negotiation of the stairs, we gave him a treat. After a couple weeks of training, he now bounds happily into bed without a treat.
It took some extra force and pounding to get all the pieces to snap together, but once everything was put together I could tell it was very sturdy hard plastic and would be hard to come apart. Best part about this unit is that the pads are removable, and unlike other steps that are fully carpeted, they will not rip or tear and come apart after repeated use. Very easy to clean - no constant vacuuming needed.
I loved how well the large 4-step unit works, that I ended up getting the Pet Gear Easy Step III Pet Stairs 3-step for the living room as well.
(I suggest a lot of patience and a rubber mallet)
And seemed narrow to me upon initial inspection.
That was almost a year ago.
They are used nightly for the boys to make it onto my very tall bed.
They are sturdy and with some rubber grippers for our hard wood floor, stay in place very well.
They are light weight which makes them easy to move given their relative size.
The removable carpet treads are a must when your pup is just learning to use them to ease when they are a bit skiddish.
Overall, they were a great find, at the best height for tall beds.
