I like the idea of this crate. However, it needs a few things. We show our Boxer at AKC dog shows and that is why we bought this. The wheels are cheap. So, I wish it had bigger, stronger wheels. They give you a carrying case with cut-outs for the wheels, so that you can drag it on the ground on its wheels, with the case in-tact. However, the only thing that happens, is that the fabric case gets torn up.

Second, when you collapse the crate, there is no latch to keep it locked and secure. So, I had to go out and buy bungy cords for it.

Third, the handle is cheap. When I was dragging it on the wheels, on day one, the handle broke off.
So, now I have to go out and buy a handtruck to put the crate on, which defeats the purpose of buying a crate with built-in wheels.

If they re-do this crate with stronger parts, this crate will fly off of the shelves. Until then, wait for version 2.0. (if there is such a thing)

I bought this crate hoping to have a more lightweight alternative to the completely steel crate that we use. It is lighter, but is very poorly made. The concept was good, but they fell short and cut corners on the design. One side has folding wire that is held in place only by very flimsy plastic clips. There is a pretty significant gap between the corner of the crate and the side wire panel. I'm concerned about a pet getting nose or paws stuck in that space. The plastic latches that lock the doors are flimsy and cheap. A strong dog could easily break them with pressure and it looks like normal use will break them before too long. Overall: good idea, poor execution. There are much sturdier crates that will give you years of use and keep your dog safely secured. I would pass on this one.

I bought this item in size Large. It is listed on the manufacturer's website as being 31" high. It is NOT. Upon contacting them, they say it is a typo and it is indeed only 27" high. Which was too short for our dog. He could not stand up in it. That is the same height as a medium crate! The breeds listed on the box that it is recommended for could not stand up in it either. Customer service at PetGear was lacking also. No apology for their typo nor compensation for a crate that is going to cost a fortune to return to the online retailer where purchased. Eventually they will correct the typo---but if you have a tall dog or a dog that likes to stand up in his crate, keep in mind that this one is very very short for a large dog.

This crate is just not what I had hoped it would be. It is supposed to be for dogs up to 70 lbs, but my 35 lb Ridgeback mix, Irie, hardly had room to move around in it. The bulky plastic parts seem to take up a lot of the space meant for the dog. Irie is a pretty aggressive chewer, constantly chewing on bones and hard toys, so I can imagine her chewing right through the plastic encasement for the hinges on the sides of the crate floor. I was thinking that the crate would fold flat and be easily rolled or carried, but it is still around 10 inches thick when totally folded. It does not secure together at all when folded, so it cannot be rolled unless it is in the bag or unless you tie it together with a bungee cord or something. The crate is EXTREMELY heavy whether folded or open, and I can't imagine even being able to barely lift it into my small wagon. I'm disappointed. It seems like a great concept, but just isn't going to work for us. I've already arranged to send it back since we never used it, and I'm getting a Midwest Life Stages wire crate...I have never gone wrong with one of those!

***BTW I wanted to add that the customer service representatives at the Amazon hotline were EXTREMELY helpful, and I was able to get a full refund on this crate-no questions asked. Amazon arranged for UPS to pick up the box right from my door so I never even had to lift a finger, and i've already gotten ALL of my money back. Thanks, Amazon!

The crate is a great design, but the biggest issue I had after having it a couple months was the clips that hold the door shut are weak and broke easily with 8 week old puppies. I called Pet Gear and they shipped me new clips immediately, but with no way to fasten them to the crate. If you can't clip the door shut the crate does absolutely no good. I have a 35 llb dumbell holding the door shut right now. Two months after the clips broke the plastic hinge broke on the door. The crate was made for a 90 pound dog mine weighs 35 pounds. I have started to figure out after having this crate for five months it is just made of cheap plastic and it won't last. When you pay $251 for a crate it should last for at least the life of your dog. My opinion is buy a wire crate.

I waited about 2 months before leaving a review. I couldn't be happier with these dog crates (I have 2). I did a lot of looking online reading reviews and such before deciding to spend this much money on dog crates but can now say it was worth it. Amazon also has the cheapest price around and I looked all over for the best price, some website are selling this same crate for $350. The crate is sturdy and nice looking. The pad inside is a little thin and I hope to replace it with a thicker dog bed once my youngest pup is out of his "chewing his bed stage." The pad would be fine for most dogs but being that I also have a senior dog I want a thicker bed for him. But the pad is easy to wash so it would be perfect for someone that has a dog that may still have an accident. There is four doors on this crate and this came in handy when my less than 1 year old boxer pit mix didn't want to go in the crate to begin with. He's a big boy so I had to pick him up and put him in through the top door. After a week or so he was completely fine with the crate and now goes in without a fuss at all, I don't even have to touch him now, I just say "crate" and both my dogs go in the side door. It also has a front door that opens like a garage door so it's out of the way if you want to leave it open. I have even placed both crates together and removed the inside doors to connect the two crates so it makes one super large crate that both dogs go into and they can be together. I love this and don't have to worry about them being lonely in separate crates when I'm gone. There is no way to actually "connect" the two crates but placed side by side it doesn't allow room for the dogs to get out even with the doors inbetween removed, the crates are sturdy so they stay in place.Read more ›
