I got the large crate and wasn't sure based on the pictures if the 2nd door would be on top and if I would use it, but it is and I do (for easily filling the water dish without bending over).
Now for the best review of all... my Akita loves the crate! Her previous crate was wire all around with a plastic tray that has gotten cracked up over the years and really hard to remove when there's an accident. She got in, laid down, and I could tell she was more comfortable here.
It is a bit awkward crawling inside to clean up accidents, but the side opening makes it easier to reach everything.
Well, after 1.5 months I can see what the other people were talking about with their dogs getting out of the crate. This may work for small dogs, but I have a 70 lb dog and she's smart. This past week during a thunderstorm she figured out how to nose between the door and the crate on the side and now she just won't stay in even if there's not a storm. This crate is missing a couple of metal locks on the sides that will prevent it from being wedged open. If your dog is smart or large, then pass this one by. The concept is great, but the execution leaves much to be desired.
Re: Collabsiblity: It collapses down into a manageable size for our 24' trailer, but you'll need to use velcro straps to keep it contained, otherwise it just kinda flops around when you maneuver it.
Re: Durability: Our GSD is a wild rescue who knows how to get out of a crate. While this one is durable, the plastic door latches seem flimsy. He hasn't broken them yet, but we also zip tie him in when he's alone. Once he was so stressed he actually pulled the gate into the crate and bent it (but it was easy to gently straighten out again). He also bent the sides around the door. If you have a wild dog, use zip ties to avoid this.
We've set up and torn down the crate at least 50 times since we got it last November, and so far it's stood up to all of our moving around. We're pretty happy with this Pet Gear crate, and our dog seems to prefer the side entry over the narrow doors that other crates have because the open feel allows him to stretch out and hang out with us. Overall, a great product!

Finally a crate that my dog couldn't destroy the bottom. Typical crates have a removable bottom plastic tray, which makes it easy to clean. Read morePublished 6 months ago by Melissa Dean
Looks good and nice door design but the catches are clearly faulty - two out of the three have broken so it is effectively useless as the door can't be securely closed. Read morePublished 12 months ago by nh

Great crate, but my dog is scared of the garage style door. You may have to corral your dog while you close the door.Published 18 months ago by Rob Scallan
The first time we used the crate a couple of months ago it was great. We had taken a quick vacation and taken the dogs. One of our dogs needs to be crated when we are away. Read morePublished 19 months ago by Tammy Prater
